Sr. Scientist (Cathode)

Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Sr. Scientist to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next‐generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate will develop advanced cathode technologies to enable high energy density solid-state batteries. Through hands-on work and material analysis, characterization, and synthesis in our state-of-the-art labs and dry rooms, this scientist will have the opportunity to rapidly innovate in the energy storage field. This person will collaborate closely with the electrolyte and electrode processing groups and the cell engineering team to bring results from lab scale into production.
Job Duties
- Synthesize and modify cathode materials.
- Develop composite cathode formulations for solid-state batteries.
- Perform materials characterization and post-mortem analysis.
- Assemble and test solid-state cells.
- Write reports and present the project progress internally and externally.
- Use the company’s document and change control system to properly archive technical documentation.
- Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in chemistry, materials science, electrochemistry, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience in development of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and other cathode materials for Li ion batteries. Experience of solid-state battery development is a plus.
- Strong publication and/or intellectual property record in battery science.
- Hands-on experience with cathode materials synthesis, electrode processing, and electrochemical cell development.
- Experience in material characterization techniques including XRD, SEM/EDS, DSC/TGA, Raman Spectroscopy, and particle size analysis a plus.
- Structured problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Rapid learner and self-motivated who thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Salary Range: $95,000 - $152,000/year
