Sr. Scientist, Non-Targeted Analysis

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the VP of Regulatory Chemistry, the Senior Scientist, Non-Targeted Analysis will support interpretation and evaluation of regulatory filing data and lead technical writing for JUUL Labs Regulatory Chemistry NTA related studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform and review structural elucidation (mass spectral interpretation) of non-targeted analysis data generated from ENDS products by a variety of analytical instruments
• Provide analytical support by performing structural elucidation of small molecules through the generation and interpretation of high-resolution mass spectrometry data from ENDS products
• Derive compound structures using mass spec fragmentation data
• Evaluate tentative identifications and propose chemical reactions based on organic chemistry knowledge
• Provide scientific interpretation of results with minimal guidance
• Lead drafting of NTA technical documents in support of regulatory filing, with efficiency, accuracy, and independent thought
• Extract and summarize scientific information from development reports and identify details required for regulatory submissions
• Verify completeness, clarity, accuracy, and quality of technical documents
• Manage the regulatory testing data and documents systematically in a very organized fashion
• Train and mentor junior scientist and research associates
• Perform other related duties as assigned

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 5 years of experience with chromatography-mass spectrometry-based techniques and data interpretation experience
• Proficiency with chromatography and mass spectrometry data analysis software such as MassHunter and Compound Discoverer

• Experience with nicotine related products, consumer goods, pharmaceutical and/or medical device

• Familiarity with regulatory requirements from agencies including but not limited to, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Health Canada (HC), Medicines and Healthcare product Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
• Experience in structure elucidation and confirmation of unknown small molecules using high-resolution mass spectrometry
• Compliance experience with ISO 17025 standard is preferred but not required
• Experience in aerosol analytical chemistry is preferred but not required
• Experience in stability study, statistical analysis and regulatory submissions is a plus
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills through presentations and publications in the areas of expertise, and the ability to communicate issues in a succinct and logical manner
• Strong problem-solving skills
• High motivation and flexibility

EDUCATION:

• S. or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or related fields with a focus in LC, GC, and high-resolution mass spectrometry
