Sr. Scientist / Principal Scientist / Associate Director, Oncology Translational Research

BillionToOne's first product, UNITY™ is the first and only non-invasive prenatal test that can directly screen an unborn baby and assess its risk for common and severe recessive gene disorders and chromosomal abnormalities, as well as fetal sex and fetal antigens, from a single tube of blood from the pregnant mother without paternal testing.

In 2023, BillionToOne launched two liquid biopsy products that will markedly improve oncology treatment and care. With Northstar Select™, clinicians will be able to select cancer therapies that will be most effective to each patient based on their individual genetic makeup. Northstar Response™ will enable clinicians to monitor a patient’s early response to these cancer therapies, by measuring minute changes in their ctDNA, which can reduce ineffective treatments and unwanted toxicity, lower costs, and substantially improve clinical outcomes.

BillionToOne is looking for an Associate Director / Principal Scientist / Sr. Scientist, Oncology Translational Medicine to lead the translational research and clinical evidence generation for Northstar liquid biopsy product line. We have many ongoing clinical studies using Northstar liquid biopsy assays that are showing groundbreaking early results. You will be responsible for driving the clinical data analysis, insights generation, and publications for those studies to prove the clinical validity and utility of the assays. This is a highly impactful role, as these insights will drive both clinical adoption and reimbursement of the Northstar product line.  

This is an interdisciplinary and inter-functional role, where you would work closely with the clinical affairs team that is responsible for clinical trials execution, the medical affairs team, the R&D team, and external research collaborators, for the results analysis, insights generation, and publications. Over time, we expect this role to grow and lead the translational research team. This is a remote position, but you may also work from our office in Menlo Park, CA if you’re locally-based (preferred).

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive clinical study data analysis and insights generation: Drive analysis of the Northstar assay results combined with clinical outcomes data to derive insights
• Turn analytical data into clinically actionable insights: Through clinical data analysis, develop appropriate approaches to turn assay values into clinically actionable results category (e.g., disease progression vs. responding to therapy)
• Clinical evidence generation strategy development: Work closely with the clinical and medical affairs, market access, product, and commercial teams to identify the high-priority areas for clinical evidence generation. Support the clinical team with the clinical study design and data management 
• Scientific Writing and Publication: Drive the publication process through data analysis and manuscript writing

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or related field
• 3-5 years of biology, bioinformatics, or epidemiology research experience (during PhD or afterwards)
• Expertise in Python, R, or a similar programming language 
• Experience with medical data analysis and medical data management tools (RedCap)
• Experience in clinical and genomic data analysis 
• Excellent communication, presentation, and scientific writing skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional team 
• Experience working with oncology medical data is strongly preferred   
• The exact job title/level will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and skill level
