Sr. Scientist (Sulfur Cathode)

Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Sr. Scientist to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next‐generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries.  Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate will be tasked with contributing to the development of high-performing next generation sulfur-based cathodes.

Job Duties

• Contribute to the development and integration of an advanced sulfur-based cathode into solid state cells.
• Contribute to the optimization of synthesis conditions to obtain desired particle size, structure and morphology.
• Perform basic materials characterization as needed to understand the effect of synthesis conditions on material physical properties.
• Perform electrode coating, cell assembly and electrochemical testing to evaluate the sulfur cathode in solid state battery.
• Conduct post-mortem analysis of cell components and provide insight for further improvement.
• Summarize experimental data and contribute to technical reports.
• Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
• Adhere to all safety precautions and protocols.
• Maintain thorough and accurate records of all conducted experimentation.
• Document and follow standard operating procedures as well as assist in drafting or editing procedures during process development.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering, material science, or a related discipline with minimum 5 years of experience in the development of lithium-ion battery.
• Hands-on experience on sulfur-based cathode material synthesis and Li-S battery development; solid-state battery development experience is a plus.
• Experience of managing government projects is desirable.
• Experience with analytical and characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, SEM, TGA, FTIR, EIS, etc. Experience with glovebox use, air-sensitive materials desirable.
• Hands-on experience on electrode coating, cell fabrication and testing.
• Structured problem-solving and analytical skills and strong technical skills in areas including electrochemistry and/or nanomaterial synthesis.
• Excellent work ethic and ability to quickly demonstrate independence.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving research and development needs.
• Highly analytical, detail-oriented mindset with an eye toward practical solutions.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• The candidate must be responsible and self-motivated, with a history of stable employment and performance.

Salary Range: $95,000 - $152,000/year
