Sr. Software Engineer (Ancestry)

23andMe’s Core Engineering team is looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer to join our Ancestry team. The Ancestry team builds, enhances and maintains features that provide users with a deeper understanding of their genetic heritage, connects them with relatives, and offers fascinating visualizations into their ancestral roots. You will guide and design compelling new features, and contribute innovative solutions to challenging engineering problems to make those features interactive and scalable. You'll lead by example and share your product delivery wisdom, wit, and experience across the team.  What You'll Do

• Quickly learn our existing infrastructure and processes for Ancestry and the consumer-facing product, including AWS, Python (Django), and JavaScript (React)
• Deliver secure, high-quality and testable code on time
• Collaborate with product, design and engineering teams on the strategic vision for our product roadmap
• Thoughtfully decompose functional and technical requirements into clean architectures and designs
• Design and build delightful and engaging consumer-facing experiences that help customers understand their results and take action toward living healthier lives
• Design APIs for cloud applications
• Drive technical excellence through code and design reviews
• Evolve and improve existing backend systems to support our ambitious product roadmap
• Mentor other engineers and become an important part of the tapestry of our engineering culture

What You'll Bring

• BS in Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 6 years real-world, industry experience building, delivering and maintaining production quality code
• Experience with Python or a similar language and a full-stack web application framework
• Understanding of web security and cryptography concepts
• A team player attitude with comfort operating in a highly collaborative environment
• Passion for scalable high-quality software and excellent user experiences
• Willingness to learn, lead, mentor and take responsibility
