Job Description
Mach49 partners with global businesses to build their growth engines through venture building, venture investing, strategic partnering, and targeted M&A. We are 100% focused on execution, helping our clients disrupt existing markets and create new ones to drive meaningful growth.
Our client, Hines, is one of the world's leading real estate investors with over $90B assets under management (AUM). Working with Hines, we are building a corporate venture capital organization and a global Venture Studio to build new technology businesses. This forms part of EXP by Hines, a new group formed by the company because today's marketplace demands a perspective that pushes beyond the traditional boundaries of real estate to respond to the disruptions facing the industry and the environment. EXP by Hines exists to expand the firm’s capabilities, explore untapped possibilities, and drive exponential outcomes designed to help transform the industry into a sustainable world. We capture the most innovative ideas that combine client service, culture, and environmental stewardship to create more inclusive, accessible communities that connect the built environment to a higher purpose. It's a vision of the future that's far bigger than buildings.
In line with this objective, the Venture Studio has launched a new venture called CQuel, working on a B2B platform and marketplace which will enable commercial real estate asset managers to assess their decarbonization needs, present a plan, match them with the most trusted suppliers and tech solutions to deliver on this, and help them provide grants and subsidies to successfully achieve their Net Zero goals and targets.
As we launch this new business, the Sr. Software Engineer will support the Product & Tech Lead in driving the early stages of the experimentation and architect, build and deploy the first version(s) of the product using a modern technology stack and engineering processes. Relevant experience managing B2B marketplaces or platforms, ideally with real-estate and decarbonization solution knowledge, is a big plus for us. Having scaled a platform from zero in previous engagements, is a must have.
The Sr. Software Engineer is a 12-month contract role will work directly with the rest of the Mach49 team, Hines and founding team to collaboratively find the first product-market fit which enables us to grow and scale this venture from there onwards.

- Architect, build and deploy the first version(s) of the product using a modern technology stack and engineering processes. This will require active coding skills in common languages like JavaScript or TypeScript for frontend development and Node.js or Python for backend development.
- The ability to differentiate between core vs chore and leverage open source or third party services.
- Effectively communicate technology issues and topics in a non-technical way with the Product, Design, Content team members and Hines leadership
- Vet and manage outsourced development and also exercise sound judgment to recruit and build an in-house team.
- Evolve the balance between fast execution and long-term reliability as the product matures from an early-stage experiment into a stable, trusted platform
- Working experience of an early stage start up, and from this be able to identify and implement prototypes that mitigate the riskiest parts of the project.
- 4+ years experience selecting and developing products on a modern tech stack such as React and Redux, nodejs, Python, PostgreSQL, Elastic search, Docker, AWS, GraphQL.
- Ability to research and get smart about a topic or technology quickly
- Experience with selection and deployment (devops) of cloud hosting platforms (i.e. AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with services architecture, API development, and container orchestration
- Experience with continuous integration, development, and deployment
- Deep understanding of databases, interfaces, and applications
- Knowledge of evolving technical no code solutions
Our client is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. We’re helping them to build a diverse, inclusive, empathetic community where every one of us belongs. A place — not just a workplace — that reflects the people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, national origins, backgrounds, and perspectives who share our world.
Background and reference checks may be required. Physical requirements include ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms, to listen and hear and/or read on and through electronic devices for extended periods of time.
