At Grubhub Fulfillment, we are responsible for delivering orders efficiently with a strong focus on providing an excellent experience to our diners, restaurants and drivers. In this role, you will be responsible to come up with innovative ideas and solutions to improve and optimize our decision making in a three sided marketplace. You will build highly available, highly scalable decision making software that ensures customers have a good experience. You will help coordinate and implement changes across services and teams weighing in software runtime constraints and ensuring there is visibility into the decisions being made so we can effectively analyze our changes. You are not afraid of dealing with ambiguities of the problem space. You do not build solutions in vacuum but in close collaboration with business stakeholders, engineers and product and only after understanding the context.
What will you be doing?

• You'll work with Grubhub's Fulfillment Decision Engineering group working on systems such as Dispatch, Delivery Estimation, Capacity Management, Routing and other systems improving the decision making at the core of the Fulfillment organization
• You'll help shape the future architecture of the system and provide input into how Grubhub's continued expansion into all aspects of our business including corporate, enterprise, campus, and in-store impact Fulfillment's architecture and teams
• You'll work closely with Operations Research and Data Science to influence how optimization and machine learning improve our decisions
• You'll help add functionality to a complex system working within timing constraints while dealing with scale
• You'll evaluate tools, technologies, frameworks, and vendors for the platform along with other senior team members
• You'll help to create the backlog of tech debt and features, suggesting areas for improvement and enhancement
• You'll actively work with other teams across Grubhub collaborating on how Fulfillment integrates with their systems
• You'll mentor other engineers and work with them to grow the skillsets of our teams and make them more effective
• You'll work with our Product and Operations teams to work through our business needs and technical solutions that can address those needs

Minimum Qualification

• Bachelor's Degree in a science, programming or engineering related field, Master's Degree preferred
• 5+ years experience building highly-scalable applications
• Experience building algorithmic solutions for real world optimization problems (Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, etc..)
• Experience mentoring junior engineers
• Experience coordinating solutions across multiple teams
• Experience with Java or other object-oriented languages
• Experience architecting, designing, and developing testable, fault tolerant, and performant software
• AWS experience, or similar cloud based offerings
• Automated testing experience applicable for services (junit/testing, mockito + jmeter/ gatling.io)
• Strong fundamentals (data structures, algorithms)
• Building observability as part of the application
• Interest in working for a fast paced, product oriented tech company
• Distributed database experience with Cassandra or similar NoSQL database experience preferred
• Docker, or similar containerized solutions
• CI / CD tools experience like Gradle, Jenkins, or similar technologies
• Ability to work and communicate within and across teams and to communicate technical solutions to non-technical people.

New York Salary Range: $200,640- $275,880
The Base Pay component of our Total Rewards package is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: job responsibilities, location, experience and, education/certifications. In addition to the pay component, this role may be eligible for equity and benefits as part of the Total Rewards package. The Total Rewards package will be determined at the time a contingent offer is made.
