Your Role:

This role will be critical in translating business strategy to actionable roadmaps across sales and marketing, bringing the disciplines together. The incumbent will be building new strategic roadmaps and helping to drive those influences forward. They will have a strong level of influence to bridge gaps between our business units, IT, and between prospect generation and design. The Principal Product Manager will also be building multiple relationships across a highly matrixed environment, while strengthening relationships already built.

Your work:

The Prospect Generation Value Stream is looking for a Principal Product Manager (PPM) with significant Marketing and Sales experience to join our team. This individual will be responsible for turning business strategy and priorities into coordinated technology solutions. The role requires a combination of technical and business vision to help CSAA build a top tier technical marketing, sales automation and agency management suite of applications and systems. The IT Principal Product Manager is responsible for crafting and maintaining a coordinated product vision, strategy and roadmap for multiple products within the value stream to cross-functional technical teams to bring new and enhanced products and services to market. The PPM plays a integral role in ensuring that products continue to meet customer needs and drive business growth, so in addition to maintaining an ongoing roadmap, PPM's must manage their products and services in market to ensure they continue to deliver value.

CSAA Insurance group recently aligned to a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and the PPM acts as the Agile Release Train Product Manager (ART PM) leading a group of Product Managers and Product Owners within the Value stream to take the roadmap laid out by the ART PM and turn it into Epics that are prioritized into Product Increments, that are then broken into stories and implemented by the PO's and their teams during regular iterations. While the PPM is an individual contributor with no direct reports, the role is a senior-level and is considered a leader. The incumbent must have strong skills working with, developing, mentoring and leading teams to success.

Required Experience, Education and Skills:

  • 5+ years of proven experience in product management: Strong background in technology product management is critical for taking on the responsibilities of a Principal Product Manager. Having a track record of successfully managing products throughout their lifecycle demonstrates your ability to navigate the complexities of the role.
  • Experience leading and handling teams and making data-driven decisions is critical to building relationships and trust with key team members. The ability to work under pressure and meet timelines is also key.
  • A solid understanding of the product development process: You should possess a comprehensive knowledge of the end-to-end product development process, from ideation to launch. This includes familiarity with methodologies such as SAFe, Agile or Scrum and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience working with Marketing departments and aligning their capability needs to the IT roadmap.
  • The ability to think strategically and creatively: As the Principal Product Manager, you will need to think strategically to define product vision, find opportunities, and align the product roadmap with business goals. Creative thinking enables you to innovate and find unique solutions to complex problems.
  • The ability to effectively connect with various audiences: As a Principal Product Manager, you'll interact with diverse partners, including executives, engineers, designers, and customers. Solid verbal and written communication skills are important for conveying ideas, presenting strategies, and collaborating with different teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team: You will need to take ownership of your work and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and uncertainty: This role is often ambiguous or uncertain, requiring adaptability and flexibility. You will need to address these challenges and make decisions with limited information.

  • Is a product SME: Understands business rules/logic associated with the products and ensures they are documented and maintained; determines and is actively participating in the appropriate user research activities, defines product metrics and maintains and reports out on product analytics on an ongoing basis, and regularly seeks out market data to develop points of view and make well-informed product decisions.
  • Ability to develop justification to secure funding for new capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with change management, marketing, operations, and other affected teams to identify operational and user implications/impacts as part of release planning; ensuring operational and business readiness, and contingency planning.
  • Act as the liaison between business and engineering/delivery teams, representing the needs of the business while championing on behalf of the end user.
  • Actively handle and lead team members; responsible for ensuring team members and leadership are well-informed of pertinent issues, concerns, or challenges.
  • Acts as point of escalation for cross-functional teams (e.g., Business, Marketing, IT)
  • Lead and define operational activities within the organization as needed.
  • Identify, recommend and/or implement continuous improvement opportunities to organizational processes within primary and partner departments.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
  • Actively shapes our company culture (e.g., supporting employee resource groups, mentoring employees, volunteering, joining cross-functional projects)
  • Champions our cultural norms (e.g., willing to have cameras when it matters: helping onboard new team members, building relationships, etc.)
  • Demonstrates a company ownership mentality, thinking beyond boundaries of their own area
  • Travels as needed for role, including divisional / team meetings and other in-person meetings
  • Fulfills business needs, which may include investing extra time, helping other teams, etc.

The national average salary range for this position is $168,210-$186,900 However, we have a location-based compensation structure. Our salary ranges vary and are calculated based on county of residence. The full salary range for this position across all the states we hire in is $136,710-$202,500. This role also includes an opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus, through our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), of up to 15% of eligible pay.
