We are seeking a product- and team-focused Senior Staff Software Engineer with experience building powerful, user-friendly web applications using modern programming languages, frameworks, and tools. The Senior Staff Software Engineer is a key member of the team who not only contributes great technical solutions that directly impact the business, but who generates creative ideas to improve our products and services. The ideal candidate will take ownership of their work and is comfortable both making decisions and building consensus.  

  

Key Activities:   

  • Analyzes system requirements or specifications, translates them into actionable work units for the team to conceptualize and develop high quality software using the established coding standards and development best practices for critical areas of the business  
  • Capable of leading large initiatives while mentoring, teaching, guiding, and improving the productivity of other Software Engineers.  
  • Conducts system analysis and proof of concepts, with limited architect and/or leadership involvement, to determine best design or solution  
  • Researches and recommends software tools/frameworks/products and/or emerging technologies as needed for a solution  
  • Leads and/or creates architecture and/or design as needed to meet the requirements, integrate disparate systems or manage changing technologies  
  • Participates in code reviews of other engineers’ work, providing constructive, professional, and humble feedback to ensure shared ownership and understanding of the code base 
  • Enforces the development of unit tests, automated tests and performance tests as needed to ensure quality, supporting general debugging and isolating areas for improvement. Capable of analyzing performance of code changes in test or production environments. 
  • Manage compliancy with WellSky HIPAA Privacy and Security Practices and all required regulatory processes.  

  

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or appropriate experience  
  • 7+ years’ experience in software design and development and/or demonstration of equivalent experience, much of which should be in the Ruby on Rails framework. 
  • Displays ability to effectively plan, organize and implement applicable tasks or projects in relation to established goals and objectives.  
  • Knowledge of and ability to create, implement, evaluate and enhance internal control processes. 
  • Experience and proficiency with Object Oriented Design and Domain Driven Design.

  

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Cloud Technology  
  • Expert knowledge and experience on the fundamentals and operating principles of varied system architectures such as SOA, Client/Server, Web Applications, Mobile Platforms, Batch, etc.  
  • Extensive experience with SQL databases, preferably PostgreSQL 
  • Experience with background job processing frameworks such as Sidekiq or DelayedJob
