About This Job

The primary responsibility for the pricing team is to accurately and systematically value each individual car that we buy and sell. Last year, CarMax sold over 1 million vehicles, appraised over 2 million vehicles, and Pricing directed over $20B in spend to purchase inventory. Success requires effectively responding to constantly changing consumer demand, wholesale auction supply, and other global/local market conditions.

As a Sr. Strategy Analyst, you will work cross-functionally with data scientists and analysts on the pricing team and with business partners/stakeholders to make key decisions and to successfully integrate our pricing models into CarMax's business.

What You Will Do - Essential Responsibilities

• Drive effective decision making within your business area, whether that be front lot pricing, appraisal offers, or auction buying
• Align with stakeholders on how pricing models can best support CarMax's strategic goals
• Through benchmarking and A/B testing, ensure that our existing models remain effective and that our new models continue to improve the business
• Ensure that our models quickly adapt to a rapidly changing business environment and help the company achieve our financial goals
• Drive innovation by delivering and interpreting deep dive analyses for various performance improvement opportunities
• Work closely with Merchandising team to integrate our models into the day-to-day operations of the business

Purpose of the Role

CarMax relies on algorithms to make important decisions about which cars to buy, how to price them, and how to allocate them across our 200+ stores. Doing so ensures that we have the right cars at the right prices to meet our customers' needs. As we continue to innovate our business and shift more of our buying and selling online, we increasingly need to make these decisions quickly with less human intervention. Our team of data scientists and business analysts plays a critical role in unlocking the business value from these innovations.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Ability to consistently deliver at a high level on the responsibilities listed above. Requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skills required:
• 2+ years experience in an analytical or strategic role
• Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., math, science, engineering, computer science, economics, finance). Advanced degree is a plus.
• Exceptional analytical and logical thinker with track record providing actionable insights and clear strategic direction
• Experience conducting large scale data analysis to support business decision making, and a willingness to gain proficiency in data analysis tools such as SQL, Tableau or Python
• Ability to explain complex, technical subjects to people with similar and different business backgrounds
• Solid project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
