Job Description

The Seattle Times, a family-owned, Pulitzer Prize-winning organization and the Northwest’s trusted source for news, is looking for an experienced Sr. Systems Administrator to join our IT department. Ideally, you possess outstanding customer service skills for internal customers and clients and have a proven command of technical expertise to serve as a subject-matter expert in our virtual and physical environment. Customer service in this role extends beyond simply completing projects and closing tickets: success is measured by an innate ability to solve critical problems with imagination and creativity while remaining patient when dealing with complex systems and actively listening to clients’ needs throughout.


Schedule: This is a Monday-Friday position with call. While this is a predominately remote position, it will require occasional on-site or data center work.


Responsibilities

  • Management and configuration of Active Directory (Hybrid)
  • Management and configuration of E-mail, E-mail Security and SharePoint on Office 365
  • Management of SAN and NAS technologies – Dell/EMC Compellent a plus.
  • Management of DHCP and DNS systems.
  • Management of virtual and physical infrastructure. (Dell and Cisco)
  • Management of File and Print systems.
  • Management of Backup solutions. (Commvault/Veeam/Wasabi)
  • Hardware and software deployment.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills in mission critical systems.
  • Familiarization with security standards (ISO, PCI, PII, PHI, HIPAA).
  • Tier 3 support of service desk.


Qualifications

  • Experience: 8+ years’ experience directly related to Windows System Administration Windows 2008/2012/2016/2019 and Desktop support with increasing responsibilities administering client/server applications; 4+ years' administrative experience with VMware; 2+ years' experience managing e-mail through office 365.
  • Experience with PowerShell and writing/maintaining PowerShell Scripts
  • Understanding of Storage Area Network concepts (SAN).
  • Understanding of M365 license stack.
  • Experience with certificate management.
  • Experience with file services including cluster management.
  • Established history of running projects to completion.
  • Proficiency with Enterprise-level administration of common services such as Active Directory (as well as Azure AD, DNS, TCP/IP, SMTP, SNMP, SSL, SSH, DHCP, Intune, zScaler and troubleshooting as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience and understanding with Cloud and Virtualization technologies.
  • Experience in the following areas: Patch Management, Anti-Virus, Clustering, OS Upgrades, computer security, scripting automation and system monitoring and logging.
  • Strong hardware/software troubleshooting skills.


Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to write proposals and price out projects.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ensure successful planning, deployment, installation, management, and upgrades of products within required timelines and resource allocations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint.
  • Experience with Windows Server 2012-2022 and Linux a plus.
  • Manage assigned tickets to ensure SLA compliance and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide root-cause analysis, contribute to knowledge base, and provide recommendations for continuous improvements to workflow, process, and technology.

 

Compensation: The full salary range for this position is $90,000 to $127,000. We typically pay between $90,000 to $114,600, depending on experience and qualifications.
