General Summary:

Our AI Product & Platform team has an immediate opportunity for a forward-thinking, experienced Sr. Technical Business Analyst.

The AI Product and Platform team's vision is to empower Unum to become a leading AI first company. To achieve this, the team builds and supports game changing AI powered products for Unum to operate better, faster, and with a larger scope than ever before. Ultimately, this will maximize value delivery to both Unum customers and shareholders.

This role plays a critical role to the team's success, as it is responsible for defining and delivering clear technical requirements necessary to build and integrate our market-leading advanced analytical products. The Sr. Technical Business Analyst will participate in the advancement of these data solutions by working closely with Business Units, Data Scientists, Product Owners, Developers and Architects. This role plays also plays a crucial role in building cutting edge advanced data science-based solutions.

Ideal candidate will have a combined experience of strong business analysis and strong data analytics that includes data mapping, working with large data sets, and dealing with complex data streams.

This is a hybrid position located in Atlanta (Sandy Springs), GA, Chattanooga TN, or Portland, ME.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, relevant professional qualification or acceptable industry experience.
  • 6+ years successful experience in a business analysis or data analytics role
  • Proficiency in developing data mapping specifications, including identification of data rules, defining transformation rules, etc.
  • Proven experience writing detailed technical requirements, with a focus on API contracts, data streams, data processing, and B2B software applications.
  • Experience working with large data sets and multiple systems of record within an enterprise-level environment
  • Familiarity with the data concepts such as data lakes, data warehouses, and training vs. testing data sets
  • Familiarity working within large cloud providers and in-house services, such as AWS or Snowflake
  • Experience with advanced data science methods such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and/or reinforcement learning is preferred
  • Experience working within a MLOps process and environments that employ an infrastructure as code approach
  • Excellent communication skills to present technical requirements, especially when dealing with complex data streams that merge thousands of variables
  • Comfortable leading groups of people in complex discussions that revolve around AI techniques & requirements
  • Strong team player; able to work effectively within a team and more broadly with people from a variety of backgrounds and areas across the organization.
  • Demonstrates ownership and accountability daily in all work effort, employs a proactive, can-do, mindset, and always is looking on how to improve to deliver their life's best work

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Architect, Product Owner, data scientists, developers, and relevant subject matter experts to elicit and define concise and effective user stories from the capability's roadmap. Additionally, the future business analyst will detail precise and accurate acceptance criteria. This definition will encompass both functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Ensure product backlog quality of work item descriptions are concise and effectively represent user needs. The ideal applicant will seek to ensure sufficient detail for the development team and will write precise acceptance criteria to support testing and acceptance of the work. Ensure that key data points on the work items are in place to provide expected transparency.
  • Ensures that Product or adoption KPIs identified can feasibly be measured and tracked through the development and delivery activities, ensuring key data points are identified and included from the outset within the scope of the solution.
  • Responsible for the investigation and application of changes to program scope. Identifies the impact on business requirements of external impacts affecting a program or project.
  • Maintain holistic understanding of AI Delivery roadmap and track any changes to the roadmap to ensure the backlog is aligned.
  • Ensure backlog work item decomposition is meeting enterprise standards with respect of quality of content and data integrity on key fields to drive transparency and effective reporting.
  • Conduct data profiling and analysis to evaluate data sources to determine the best source for business information, then provide a data map of these requisite variables.
  • Maintain and model best practices on a set of tactical agile techniques in relation to work decomposition, planning, estimation, backlog tooling, status reporting, to include using software based Agile development tools such as Jira or Rally.
  • Collaborates with the Product Owner on prioritization and grooming of the capability backlog. Ensure that key information needed to support PO prioritization is current, accurate and available in a usable format to drive high quality decisions.
  • Mentor core resources as designated by team leader.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$95,000.00-$185,400.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
