Sr. Technology Lead, DevOps

The Development Tools team at Critical Mass has a vital responsibility for our systems and infrastructure supporting the delivery of technical solutions to our clients.

The Development Tools Lead role is part hands-on developer, operator, and architect, but as a lead you are focused on the overall outcome and contribution of the systems in support of the business goal – making our clients’ customers’ lives better. Communication and sharing is a key component of the role given that you support geographically and technically diverse teams. Keeping everyone on the same page as we take evolutionary steps, while continuing to manage and update current services is not for the faint of heart. The mandate of the role is broad, and bringing everyone along is part of the challenge.

The systems in question are what you’d expect to be in support of modern software delivery: source control, artifact storage, continuous integration, issue tracking, wiki, code review, and more. We endeavour to use configuration management to orchestrate the systems, but are pragmatic about its limits in our environment. You will:

• Lead and mentor DevOps Engineers in the construction of delivery systems using configuration management and horizontally scalable architectures
• Participate in planning client technical operations solutions at an architecture level
• Evangelize our evolution toward infrastructure as code
• Coordinate necessary downtime for the upgrade/maintenance of systems
• Advocate on behalf of CM compliance needs and assist in provisioning systems or automating process for security or quality audits
• Work with CM IT to communicate and review networking and software needs
• Track usage and capacity plan for hardware and software on an annual basis
• Participate in on-call rotation for dev tools systems
• Participate in on-call rotation for client production systems

You have:

• At least a two-year information technology diploma or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of system administration or operational support experience
• Experience with hosted cloud services (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
• Experience managing Linux and Windows systems
• Experience managing technical projects, and leading/mentoring junior peers or managing a small team
• Fantastic communication skills – both written and verbal
• Expertise in shell scripting and proficiency in at least one of the following scripting languages: python, shell
• Experience with Git
• Experience with the Atlassian suite of products or comparable
