Sr. User Experience Designer, Vision Automation

The Role

Tesla's Vision Automation team is currently seeking a Sr UX Designer to master our automated defect detection systems and assist in expanding its capabilities. The Vision Automation team is part of the Vehicle Engineering organization. We own the centralized technical aspects of our multi-continent Gigafactory network and product line, including Tesla's most important programs, such as the four S3XY models, Cybertruck, Semi, Robotaxis, Optimus, and new factories. The Vision Automation team plays a role in making the factories every bit as revolutionary as the products themselves.

As a UX Designer for our Vision Automation platform, you will be to develop an intuitive interface suitable for both non-technical and technical users. This involves simplifying complex machine learning development for ease of use by non-experts, while providing advanced customization options for technical users. The role requires balancing user-friendly design with sophisticated functionality. You will play a crucial role in making advanced ML technology accessible and practical for a diverse range of users, thereby enhancing user engagement, and broadening the platform's applicability across different business cases inside Tesla. In addition, you will assist in expanding the capabilities of our current automated machine learning system as the bridge between our software engineering team and operations team through successful teamwork, coordination and by leaning on your user research and design methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Research and define UX strategy, contribute to the overall product and design direction from concept to implementation
• Develop creative and innovative design solutions for internal tools experiences and desktop app that support various types of customers from different backgrounds and with different requirements
• Constantly measure how designs are performing for target customers; iterate and improve those experiences as needed
• Work in a highly collaborative fashion with engineers and other partners; invest in building relationships and trust with stakeholders and leaders
• Present work to partners, stakeholders and senior leaders regularly
• Define and share Tesla UX design standards and guidelines
• Advocate for consistency across team members and partners

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in the study of Design, portfolio that shows equivalent project experience, or equivalent
• 4+ years of experience designing interactive applications for web
• An excellent portfolio showcasing user experience, information architecture design, visual design and UI work with a strong design sensibility and excellent, user-centric storytelling
• Excellent visual, UI, and interaction skills, ability to think through complex interaction design
• Customer-focused, with experience using design research methods to uncover customer insights Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated, able to work independently but also collaborative and driven by group critique
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-stress iterative design process under minimal supervision

Expected Compensation

$88,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
