Mindex's SchoolTool division is responsible for New York State's market leading Student Management System (SMS), built from the ground up. Our team is involved in the full lifecycle of this product, including sales, training, support, and maintenance.
As Sr. UX Designer, you will own the SchoolTool user experience ensuring new features are implemented with an efficient, intuitive, and aesthetically pleasing user interface. You will work with key stakeholders (internal and external) to drive the overall evolution of the SchoolTool user interface design and overall user experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product owners to research customer needs, clarify product requirements, and clearly understand problems to be solved
- Curate and nurture a community of users of varying personas for conducting research
- Regularly perform ethnographic studies to inform and refine the product roadmap and detailed designs for release epics
- Document user research findings in easy formats such as user journey maps
- Design solution options to maximize the user experience in the form of low-and-high fidelity wireframes and any other necessary artifacts (e.g., flow diagrams) to communicate the design to engineering teams
- Validate designs with data and/or user interviews where possible
- Collaborate with engineering teams during the design and development phases to ensure designs optimize the user experience within the product framework and any technical or framework constraints
- Maintain a comprehensive design system / library to ensure an exceptional and consistent user experience across all modules
- Keep abreast of industry best practices, taking a pragmatic approach to implementing best practices within our organization, and educating others as to the practices that our organization should adopt
- Coach and support product team members and other members of the UX team to support overall organizational goals
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in UX Design, New Media design, or a related field with a minimum of five - seven years of experience in UX/UI design
- Experience with HCI (Human computer interaction), UI Design, mobile app and responsive design, and usability
- Two+ years of experience in Agile development environments preferred
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Advanced capabilities in prototyping tools like Figma (preferred), Adobe XP, Sketch
- Working knowledge of CSS, HTML, Javascript, XHTML, MXML, Flex a plus
- Strong information design skills
- Proficiency in facets of the design process, talented and skilled in at least one of the following major areas: visual and motion design, or interaction and information architecture design
- Knowledge of development management tools like Azure DevOps (Preferred), Jira, Trello
