Job description:
The Pratt & Whitney Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) organization is seeking an engineer to execute Nickel Superalloy development, characterization, and production implementation for current and future jet engines. The engineer will serve customers across the enterprise (supply chain, engine programs, advanced technology) to plan, execute, and report on technical research and development related to Nickel Based Superalloys.
Projects will range from engine safety, production stoppage, new/repair technology development, cost reduction, etc. where the engineer will work to understand customer requirements and execute development programs to meet and exceed business needs. The engineer will collaborate with other engineering disciplines, engineering management, and manufacturing customers as part of an Integrated Product Team to ensure successful transition and implementation of technology into Pratt & Whitney's products.
To perform this role effectively, the candidate is expected to be proficient in the physical metallurgy of Nickel based Superalloys and associated processes to develop and establish process/property relationships. The candidate is expected to be proficient in application processes such as: casting, forging, additive manufacturing, heat treatment, and conversion practices for Nickel Based Superalloys. Additionally, a working knowledge of integrated computational modeling tools and methods (Thermo-Calc, PanDat, etc.) is desired to effectively solve complex problems. Candidates will also lead elements or entire initiatives to develop alloys and processes for current and future applications.
The candidate will interface with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE) and NASA customers & lab technical community to seek, secure and execute contracts. Experience with program planning, cost estimation and scheduling in addition to meeting contractual requirements during execution is preferred. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and be highly motivated. The candidate will be viewed as a technology leader with responsibilities that include bench-marking alloy technology and processes, securing funding, managing projects, and updating engineering standard work.
Travel requirement- 10%
Basic Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
10+ years of relevant engineering experience or 7+ year's w/an advanced degree
Candidate must be a US Citizen or Green card holder with ability to obtain a US Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
M.S. or Ph.D.
Fundamental understanding of Physical Metallurgy of Nickel Based Superalloys and Processing
Experience in testing and characterization of nickel based superalloys
Fundamental understanding of effects of thermal mechanical processing of superalloys alloys and the impacts of oxidation and corrosion on material behavior
Experience in data collection, data management, and data analysis methods.
Fundamental understanding of material and process modeling
