Sr/Staff/Principal Engineer or Architect for Data Platform

ClickUp is looking for passionate and dedicated engineers to help us scale and support our growing platform. You’ll be joining the team powering everything happening behind the scenes.

The Platform team is responsible for developing foundational features in the product, such as user management, global search, notifications center, permissions, security, and public APIs. Engineers in this role work on large-scale product development with high quality, optimal performance, and enterprise-grade security. We work closely with product managers, front-end engineers, and the quality assurance team to provide a world-class software platform powering ClickUp.

One of the primary responsibilities for our Platform backend team is implementing and maintaining highly efficient API endpoints, workers, and micro-services that can scale to support our rapidly growing user base. You will work primarily in Typescript and PostgreSQL, deploying to a globally distributed infrastructure hosted on Amazon Web Services. An ideal candidate would also have experience with queuing services, in-memory data stores, WebSocket management, monitoring and alerts, and continuous integration techniques.

Role:

• Provide technical leadership in design, implementation, and maintenance of highly-scalable backend APIs, services, and features of the platform
• Work with product managers, front-end engineers, and product designers to define the product requirements, scope, and business impact.
• Work with software architects and other teams, such as security or infrastructure, to craft technical architecture to enable the substantial scale of the platform.
• Collaborate with other engineers to implement Platform backend features on the roadmap
• Write functional tests to ensure the quality of products.
• Identify and troubleshoot errors and performance issues that occur within our infrastructure.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on best practices.
• Be involved in customer discussions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent major.
• 6+ years of working experience developing and maintaining backend APIs and services in a production-level environment.
• Knowledge of SQL and relational databases (preferably PostgreSQL).
• Experience with AWS or other major cloud services.
• Proficient with TypeScript or other popular programming languages.
• Strong teammate with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building large-scale SaaS platforms supporting millions of users.
• Experience building modern development patterns for platforms, such as micro-services or event-driven architecture.
• Experience leading or managing engineering projects across teams.
• Expertise with technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Elastic Search, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
