SST Retrieval Scientist
Job Description
Global Science & Technology, Inc (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, is seeking an SST Retrieval Scientist to support a group of scientists and software developers at the Satellite Oceanography and Climatology Division (SOCD) under the NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR).
This position is located in the College Park and Greenbelt region of Maryland. GST will follow government rules pertaining to telework and remote work status.
Position Summary:
The individual in this position will be a member of the SST Team, responsible for the development of improved SST, cloud mask and error characterization algorithms, consistently between multiple polar and geostationary sensors (e.g., VIIRS, ABI, AVHRR, MODIS, etc.).

Required Education/Experience/Skills:
- M.S. in a quantitative field of research (Physics, Math, Statistics, Remote Sensing, Oceanography, Meteorology) required. Ph.D's will be given first preference.
- Solid quantitative educational background (fundamental Physics, Math, Statistics)
- Strong scientific analytical skills with detail-oriented working style
- Proficiency with Unix/Unix scripts, C/C++, Python, Fortran programming
- Proven list of deliverables (peer-reviewed publications, derived products, etc.)
- Willingness and ability to conduct independent research (from problem definition to technical solution to documentation in peer-reviewed literature) while being a team player
The following skills are desirable:
- Experience with cloud screening, SST retrieval algorithms and mathematical inversions;
- Proficiency with global data handling and quality control procedures;
- Familiarity with radiative transfer modeling and calibration of satellite sensor data.
