Job Description

Global Science & Technology, Inc (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, is seeking a SST Scientist with Computational Skills to support NOAA/NESDIS/STAR.

This positon is located in College Park, MD, but is temporarily approved for telework due to Covid-19. A hybrid model of onsite and telework each week will likely be put in place in the coming months.

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will work with a group of SST scientists and software developers at the Satellite Oceanography and Climatology Division (SOCD) under the NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). The position is long term, contingent upon performance. The individual in this position will be responsible for the development of improved SST, cloud mask and error characterization algorithms, and corresponding software development, consistently between multiple polar and geostationary sensors (e.g., VIIRS, AHI, ABI, AVHRR, MODIS, Metop-SG Met Image, MTG FCI).

Primary Duties:

  • The individual in this position will be responsible for the development of improved SST, cloud mask and error characterization algorithms, and corresponding software development, consistently between multiple polar and geostationary sensors (e.g., VIIRS, AHI, ABI, AVHRR, MODIS, Metop-SG Met Image, MTG FCI).
  • This is a scientific position that requires a strong understanding of physical science, mathematics and like all modern science endeavors an understanding of how to perform scientific computing.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Recent PhD in a quantitative field of research (Physics, Math, Statistic, Remote Sensing, Oceanography, Meteorology) completed by date of hire. An MS with relevant experience working in a similar field will be considered.
  • Strong scientific analytical skills with detail-oriented working style
  • Proficiency with Unix/Unix scripts, C/C++, Python, Fortran programming
  • Proven list of deliverables (peer-reviewed publications, derived products, software packages, etc.)
  • Willingness and ability to conduct independent research (problem definition, technical solution, coding, publication) while being a team player.
