Staff Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

NOV is currently seeking a Staff Accountant working under NAM Wellbore Technology Finance Team. The primary focus of this position is to provide accurate and timely PP&E reporting and to ensure compliance with government regulations and company policies (US GAAP, SOX, etc.). This is a hands-on and challenging role working closely with the Accounting Fixed Assets Manager, the NAM Regional Controller, Operations personnel, and Corporate.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of period close, required reports, and journal entries to create and support processes that meet required company deadlines.
• Create and enter journal entries, accruals, and adjustments with supporting backup and file in accordance with policy.
• Maintain and record capital asset acquisitions (both newly acquired and used), disposals and transfers in multiple systems (JDE, Track-A-Tool, Corporate Fixed Asset System)
• Run monthly depreciation for all fixed assets
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations for all PP&E accounts for ledgers under NAM Shared service team and analyze all reconciling items on a timely basis to determine root cause and provide corrective action.
• Prepare monthly reports detailing activity related to capital expenditures, subledgers and depreciation.
• Comply with internal and external audit requests including but not limited to SOX walkthrough testing, PP&E transaction sample testing, PP&E data, and control review
• Assist management team with automating and streamlining processes relating to improvements in functional areas of responsibilities.
• Respond to inquiries from the Accounting Manager and Regional Controller on accounts or special projects.
• Compliance with Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 2 years of general accounting experience and familiarity with asset management.
• Understanding of US GAAP, SOX reporting (preferred) and statutory accounting concepts and principles.
• Ability to effectively interact with Operations personnel and other accounting Staff/Senior.
• Strong interpersonal, and communication (written and oral) skills, problem solving skills and keen attention to details are essential
• Pro-active operating style with ability to multi-task to meet and be tolerance to aggressive deadlines
• Team player with a strong work ethic
• Strong understanding of accounting theory and organized.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

• Proficiency in Excel (PIVOT Table, VLOOKUP, and Sum if, etc.) and other Microsoft Office applications is a must
• Experience with JDE, TAT, SAGE FAS, or Hyperion is a plus.
• Exposure to HFM and SmartView is a plus
