We are looking for a dynamic individual to join as a Staff Accountant in our Finance Department. The candidate must bring a strong sense of commitment to this role. ABOUT THE POSITION
Job Title: Staff Accountant
Hiring Manager: Assistant Controller
Employment: Full-time
Location: New York
The Staff Accountant role will report to the Assistant Corporate Controller and is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This includes maintaining financial records, preparing financial reports, and assisting with budgeting and forecasting activities. The Staff Accountant will collaborate with other departments and provide support to the finance team as needed. The role requires a proven ability to apply accounting and finance knowledge to improve or implement new procedures with a strong mix of analytical, reporting, and financial modeling experience.
The ideal candidate would have strong problem solving and technical accounting skills with the ability to research and document GQG's position, policy, and conclusions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable and receivable transactions, and expense reports.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and analyses on a regular basis.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing journal entries, adjusting entries, and account reconciliations.
- Support treasury activities by preparing daily cash analysis and monitoring funding needs
- Support accounts payable activities through management of procurement system, preparing wire runs and analyzing vendor spend.
- Assist with the preparation of tax returns and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide support during audits by organizing and providing necessary financial documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve financial discrepancies and answer inquiries related to financial transactions.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
- Stay updated on accounting principles, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and recommend process improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven work experience as a Staff Accountant or in a similar role; at an asset management firm a plus.
- Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Strong understanding of the accounts payable process, including controls, data flow and systems.
- Proficiency in using accounting software and MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional certifications such as CPA preferred.
