Staff Accountant Job Purpose:

Work as part of the Accounting Team to support our mission by managing the accounts payable process, assisting with month end and year end closes, and preparation of financial statements. Cross train to learn all aspects of accounting while maximizing personal development!
 

Staff Accountant Job Description:

Job Purpose: Applies principles of accounting to complete business office tasks in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and company policies and procedures.

The following are essential duties and responsibilities; however, this should not be construed as an exhaustive list; other duties may be assigned.

Duties:

  • Manage all aspects of accounts payable.
  • Record daily cash transactions in Matrix Care.
  • Collects appropriate data and prepares sales tax returns.
  • Prepares and records monthly journal entries.
  • Reconcile General Ledger accounts and resolve differences.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and resolve differences.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Record Bond and investment accounts’ activity monthly. Record donor cash receipts.
  • Cross train in order to provide backup for all phases of accounting.
  • Provide other duties of support as assigned by Sr. Accountant.

Staff Accountant Education/Skills/Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of accounting and finance principles and procedures, including GAAP.
  • Passion for math and analytics.
  • Attention to detail, values, precision, and accuracy.
  • Ability to shift priorities as needed.
  • Good communication skills to interact with other departments.
  • Experience undergoing an audit is a plus.
