Purple Carrot is on a mission to cultivate the plant based revolution, one meal at a time. We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team. As an integral part of our Financial Operations department, you will join forces with the Senior Manager of Financial Operations (to whom you will also report) in our continued effort to help people eat more plants!

This position will play an important role in ensuring that Purple Carrot achieves weekly, monthly, and annual financial reporting objectives, supporting our business in providing the data to make crucial financial and operational decisions, and assisting in the design and implementation of processes and internal controls.

As the Staff Accountant, you will be focused on financial reporting that meets the needs of both our business and our parent company, reviewing data that is used cross-functionally by decision makers and senior management, and ensure that our organization is protecting itself through effective, efficient processes and effectively operating internal controls. Further, you will be working with various departments and team members to ensure the accuracy and completeness of our financial data.

• Travel: No typical travel, although some teams find benefit by visiting our shipping facilities

On the Plate

• Month-End Close Process: Manage to a strict timeline while identifying improvements and producing timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Prepare account reconciliations (i.e. cash, accounts payable, accrued expenses, etc.).
  • Assist in both internal and external financial statement reviews that are performed monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Perform research related to accounting and other finance-related questions that will ensure the organization's compliance with all required accounting principles
• GL Maintenance: Ensure that our general ledger is both in compliance with US GAAP and also provides useful reporting to management in order to facilitate quick decision making. Act as liaison between finance and the rest of the Purple Carrot team to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Internal Controls: Support and adhere to internal control procedures. Identify potential gaps in internal controls in order to minimize risks to the organization.
• Audit Support: Support team in completing annual diligence and audits along with other ad-hoc third-party audits.
• Internal Business support: Collaborate with internal business groups, such as the operations team, on special projects, and ad-hoc analyses as necessary. These projects may include acting in the role of "super user" for our operational inventory management system, or supporting the team in reviewing and closing out the weekly sales orders.
• Accounts Payable (A/P) Management: Support, collaborate with, and manage the A/P Associate. Identify and implement A/P process improvements.

Main Ingredients for the Role

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (completion of or pursuing CPA licensure is highly preferred).
• 2-4 years professional accounting experience, prior public accounting experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of accounting policies, including US GAAP, and bookkeeping procedures and controls.
• Existing expertise with QuickBooks, Fishbowl, Bill.com, and Excel is preferred.

• Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence - the ability to build relationships, a good listener with outstanding interpersonal communication abilities and an effective, consultative style.
• Detail-oriented and proactive and independent in problem solving.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, growing start-up is a plus.
• Team player who can effectively work cross-functionally.
