Job Overview:
This is a remote position however candidate must be local to Baton Rouge, LA or within 50-mile radius.
The Staff Accountant position is responsible for performing a range of accounting tasks including general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, supporting monthly closing activities, producing various financial reports, and serving as an intermediary between operations and the accounting department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the director and controllers to ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial statements
- Prepare journal entries in accordance with processes and procedures
- Assist in the company's monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reporting
- Complete account reconciliations and analysis
- Analyze variances, prepare explanations, and provide support for actual vs budget/forecast performance
- Provide accounting information to management, other departments, and auditors
- Manage operational data while maintaining accuracy and integrity
- Assist in special projects
- Review financial data to ensure fairness and completeness
- This position provides the opportunity for exposure to a wide range of company activities and personnel. All duties performed are in compliance with GAAP, company policies and procedures, SEC reporting requirements, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements.
Desired Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3-5 years of experience in accounting preferred
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
- Strong computer, mathematical, and analytical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Microsoft Excel
- Highly proficient with accounting software
- Effective communication skills, both written verbal
- Ability to work independently take ownership of daily/monthly activities
- Team oriented
- Ability to manage time effectively and adhere to deadlines
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Preferred Qualification
- CPA license or ability to sit for CPA exam
