How Will Your Role Impact First Command?

The Staff Accountant supports the monthly close process by recording, classifying, summarizing, analyzing, and reporting on transactions resulting from business operations. The Accountant reports to the Bank Accounting Manager and should demonstrate accountancy principles knowledge, proactivity, multitasking, organizational skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving orientation

What Will You Be Doing?

• Preparing standard and ad-hoc journal entries as required
• Reconciling balance sheet accounts
• Performing analytical processes including investigation of unusual transactions or unexpected variances
• Performing research and providing financial analysis to management and other users of financial information
• Developing integrated revenue/expense analyses, projections, reports, and presentations
• Familiar with standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures ("GAAP")
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform job functions
• Works under immediate supervision
• Must display sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information
• Assist with various regulatory filings
• Work on special projects as assigned

Reporting Responsibilities:

• Work papers and audit documentation for First Command Bank ("FCB") to external auditors and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency ("OCC")
• Work closely with Internal Audit on Financial Services department audits
• Work with the Accounting Manager on Balance Sheet & income forecasts
• Prepare financials and close books
• Perform bookkeeping for investment portfolio

What Qualifications/Skills Do You Need?

Education

• Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting

Work Experience

• 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area

• Strong Excel skills
• Strong technical skills
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently and on a team
