POSITION SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

IFG Companies, a values-driven, privately-held nationwide commercial insurance provider, is seeking a talented and motivated Staff Accountant to play a key role on our finance and accounting team in our downtown Chicago location. This position is ideal for a strong performer who is looking to expand their knowledge of ledgers, GAAP and statutory accounting and reporting, and financial analysis. We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of accounting and financial reporting functions that will help us take the team to the next level!

LOCATION

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare monthly journal entries on both a GAAP and Statutory basis under the direction and oversight of a Senior Accountant
• Prepare general ledger reconciliations
• Prepare GAAP and Statutory exhibits and footnotes
• Assist with the design, preparation and analysis of management reports, Board of Director presentations, etc.
• Create and perform ad hoc queries, analysis, and / or analytics upon request

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

• Effective communication skills; comfortable and effective in interacting with varying levels of management and other professional staff
• Self-motivated and energetic with a strong work ethic; assumes ownership of assigned tasks and drives tasks to completion
• Strong work ethic with excellent organizational and time management skills
• Analytical thinker known for proposing creative solutions and thinking outside of the box

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS

• Bachelors and / or Master's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 0-2 years of experience in an accounting role. Statutory accounting experience a plus.
• CPA or CPA candidate a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Physical demands are considered to be that of an office environment, climate controlled, with minimal physical exertion. This position requires prolonged sitting, ability to utilize a computer and interactions with others meetings or via phone.
• Ability to travel as necessary for business reasons.
