Staff Accountant
Job Description
Summary:
The Staff Accountant will be a key member of the Global Finance Team and plays a critical part in building effective partnerships with our Clinical Operations team. Responsibilities include supporting the monthly close process, clinical trial accruals, audit, and SOX requests. A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and demonstrated knowledge of technical and operational accounting and finance functions are a must.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining complex accrual schedules for clinical trial and CMC accruals, collaborates cross-functionally with Clinical team to facilitate accurate accounting estimates and assesses each accrual for proper prepaid or payable balance
- Assist the month-end close process and internal financial reporting including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, reports and schedules
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual audits
- Research and resolve issues as they relate to invoices, purchase orders and contracts
- Research variances to budget and trend fluctuations to identify errors and/or explain variances to management
- Assist with identifying process improvements, implementing changes, and ensuring best practices.
- Support SOX compliance processes and assist with the update of controls including assessing any control gaps and changes in processes
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field is preferred
- 2-4 years of relevant accounting experience with processing General Ledger activities (journal entries, reconciliations, analytical research & problem resolution)
- Experience working in a biotech, pharmaceutical or clinical research organization and 2-4 years of public accounting experience is a plus
- Solid understanding of US GAAP
- High degree of proficiency in Excel
- Working knowledge of NetSuite or other higher tier accounting system preferred
- Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment
- Proactive problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment and handle and prioritize multiple requests
- Ability to build relationships cross-functionally and communicate effectively with all levels within the company.
- Office Environment based in San Diego, CA or Remote.

For California based applicants, the expected salary range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. This position also qualifies for the benefits as listed below:
