As part of a recent investment by ParkerGale Capital at the tail end of 2021, the company is preparing to undergo a period of transformation and growth in 2022 and beyond.

Biscom is seeking a highly talented Staff Accountant. As a key member of the finance team, this position reports to the Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the monthly and year-end financial cycle. This includes bank reconciliation, preparation of journal entries, fixed asset reconciliation, tax return administration, account reconciliation, report generation, financial analysis and account analysis.

Outcomes - What You'll Accomplish

In your first 6 weeks, you will:

  • Meet with all key business leaders and current accounting third parties to understand the current state of the practice.
  • Learn Biscom's accounting operations and the financial close process.
  • Review the company's documented accounting policies and assist with mapping of current process workflows.
  • Connect with members of our Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, Product, Finance and Technology teams to understand our offerings and why our customers value them.

In your first 3 months, you will:

  • Assist with Month-End & Year End Close. Prepares journal entries and analysis associated with the monthly and annual close; assists the Controller with the annual audit.
  • Account Reconciliation. Reconciles assigned accounts by the required deadline and maintains appropriate documentation for internal and external needs.
  • Fixed Asset. Maintains the company's fixed asset and capital expenditures.

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Work with CFO, Controller, Revenue Manager and other key stakeholders to reconcile, maintain and update accounting files. Analyze budgets and create expense reports for all departments.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis. Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports. Analyzes financial data and variances. Gathers internal and external organization reporting requirements. Analyzes and develops meaningful financial reports, assists with streamlining department processes and procedures.
  • Acts as back-up to other members of the accounting team. Provides support to the accounting team when needed. Takes the initiative to fully cross train with team roles and helps out when available or required. Works on special projects as required.

Within 12 months, you will:

  • Assist the finance team in their analysis of Biscom's customer base to understand contract renewal opportunities and risks in partnership with the leadership team.
  • Partner with sales and marketing to create budgets that reflect a demand generation waterfall, and cascade that through the sales pipeline and sales rep efficiency model.
  • Provide departmental budgets to leaders for which they can manage to and track their performance against.

On an ongoing basis, you will:

  • Maintain and update accounting records and files
  • Analyze budgets and create expense reports
  • Examine tax policies and handle tax payments and returns
  • Meet with clients to discuss confidential accounting issues
  • Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger (e.g. by assets, liabilities and expenses)
  • Reconcile bank statements
  • Analyze transactions with internal and external stakeholders
  • Conduct month-end and year-end closures
  • Prepare documents for audits
  • Advise clients on financial issues via email or phone
  • Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations
  • Report to the Accounting Manager and work to improve financial processes

You will have the ability to make people believe you are there to help and hold them accountable. You must possess the intellectual heft and poise in communication style to be an advisor to Head of Sales and the leadership team of the company.
