Staff Accountant
Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant supports Finance Management in general accounting operations, including payroll processing and compliance, accounts payable, vendor management, payments, general ledger accounting, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, monthly forecasting, and internal and external financial reporting for the company. In adherence to accounting standards and principles, the Staff Accountant is responsible for reviewing and processing various accounting data and producing data-driven reports for management review.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Complete monthly close process for expenses, including preparation and posting of journal entries, calculation of prepaids and accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Responsible for bi-weekly payroll in ADP, including employee payments, payroll taxes, compliance activities and benefits support
- Responsible for accounts payable functions, including invoice processing, vendor payments, resolution of reconciliation issues, month-end accruals, prepaid accounting, and employee expense report administration
- Participate in planning/forecasting processes for P&L, balance sheet accounts and cash flow
- Define and develop reporting responsive to internal customer requests
- Supports the administration of the company retirement plan(s), including annual audit support
- Supports internal and external information requests, including banking, tax, and audit
- Ensures accounting and fiscal compliance with federal, state, local, and institutional standards, regulations, laws and policies; provides recommendations on improvement areas based on analysis of accounting operations trends and performance
- Active participation in process improvements, department projects, or system enhancements, including developing, documenting and updating policies and procedures
- Enlists a service excellence mindset to resolve management and employee questions and needs; works closely with partners across the company to coordinate responses and resolutions
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Need to Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or equivalent work experience
Nice to Have:
- Prior experience processing payroll and accounts payable.
- Proficient in ADP and NetSuite
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of applicable laws, codes, guidance and regulations
- Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of accounting information and systems
- Proven ability to resolve various accounting problems, questions, and concerns
- Proficient in computer applications and systems related to the work, Including Microsoft Excel
- Competency with English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
- Operating in a both a team and individual contributor environment
- Using initiative and independent judgment within established department guidelines
- Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team goals, objectives, and activities
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of individuals

Mobility to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
Travel as needed to support company and customer initiatives. Work on Site at our St Paul office may be required and ABOUT reserves the right to change the location of the role at any time.
This role may involve work on federal government contracts that require additional federal background investigations, training, and federal badging. As such, you will may required to submit personal information to the government and be fingerprinted and photographed at your local Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
