Bay Harbor Yacht Club, a private club located near Petoskey, MI, provides breathtaking views and exceptional service for both guests and members year-round. Bay Harbor Yacht Club is a Distinguished Emerald award-winning club and was named an Honorable Mention for the Platinum Clubs of America 2023-2024. BHYC boasts several exquisite restaurants, multiple recreational outlets, and large event spaces, all situated on the Bay Harbor marina. We recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation which included expanded summer seasonal dining, a new Grille Room, State of the Art Fitness Center, Aquatics Center and a Relaxation Spa!

The Staff Accountant is a great opportunity for candidates who are passionate about the financial aspect of Hospitality while still interacting with Club members “behind-the-scenes”. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for Accounts Payable, Billing, and other aspects of Club financials. Candidates should be comfortable speaking with members and maintain a warm and welcoming presence. This position is generally performed during office hours, however some weekends may be required per business need.

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant position is responsible for the processing of the Club’s accounts payable transactions as well as posting all billing transactions. The Staff Accountant will work with the Controller and Director of Finance to analyze and monitor record keeping for Club financials.

 

Job Duties:

  • Process all aspects of accounts payable; vendor management, invoice entry, vendor payments, filing of paperwork.
  • Track electronic vendor payments and credit card purchases.
  • Maintain vendor file information such as; certificates of insurance, W9 forms, etc.
  • Create and maintain merchandise inventory sku’s.
  • Monitor monthly inventories for food, beverage and retail merchandise.
  • Assist with maintaining fixed asset schedules and project accounting.
  • Maintain secondary schedules related to various activities.
  • Process and post billings related to point-of-sale transactions, banquets, member events and other member activities.
  • Help answer the phone, take dining reservations, assist members with general questions
  • Assist with preparing monthly member statements.
  • Process member payments and prepare bank deposits.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and take action according to established club policies and
  • procedures. Answer member questions regarding monthly statements.
  • Maintains necessary procedures for the confidentiality of club information and the safe
  • guarding of club assets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university majoring in Accounting or Finance.
  • Three to five years of professional accounting experience.
  • Previous payroll processing or human resource experience desired.
  • Previous experience working in hospitality industry desired

 

Job Competencies:

  • High level of ethics and trustworthiness.
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts for all bookkeeping, payroll, budgets, and
  • statistical analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Adobe, etc. required.
  • Knowledge or prior use of Financial and Accounting Software Applications required.
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal and state accounting laws and practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize work activities required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Working Conditions:

Work will generally be performed in an indoor office environment. Outdoor temperatures can range from 100+ F to 32 F, and there may be exposure to loud noises and sustained elements. Working schedule is generally 40 hours per week, with some holidays, weekends and travel required. Must have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. as required. General standing, walking, lifting, pushing and pulling movements are required.
