Staff Accountant, Inventory Control

POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant – Inventory Control is responsible for executing accounting activities related to the management of merchandise and store supplies inventory. The role includes overseeing inventory transactions flowing into Microsoft Dynamics 365 to ensure accuracy and completeness. The individual will also analyze and reconcile inventory accounts related to shrink, damages, mark out of stock, valuation and duty. The Staff Accountant – Inventory will be a key functional partner to the rest of the accounting team and other internal teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Must possess ability to:
- Maintain completeness and accuracy of owned merchandise and store supplies
- Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations related to but not limited to Inventory
- Reconcile store physical inventories, analyze the results and record necessary adjustments in general ledger
- Track marked out of stock (MOS) inventory and record MOS/LCM (Lower Cost of Market) reserve
- Effectively research and resolve inventory discrepancies by coordinating with Store Operations, Sourcing and Production and Merchandise and Allocation
- Execute ad hoc requests from internal and external partners
- Perform all period-end accounting in a timely and accurate manner with a high level of attention to detail
- Assist accounting team members with non-Inventory related tasks if needed
- Perform Inventory finance work (budgeting/forecasting), logistics process reviews, etc
- Ensure compliance to GAAP and company standards and controls relating to Inventory
- Comply with legal and ethical standards
- Maintain excellent customer service with internal and external partners
- Assist with ad hoc tasks and projects as necessary
- Proactively identify areas of opportunity and recommend solutions
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of Inventory Accounting experience with Retail sector experience preferred
- Big 4 or regional firm public accounting experience is preferred
- Expertise in generally accepted accounting practices with CPA certification preferred
- Ability to build partnerships across departments and partners
- Comfortable working in dynamic and fast-paced environment with ability to be flexible
- Position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Advanced Excel skills and experience including analysis of mass data sets, Vlookups, pivot tables and formulas are required
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP and inventory module experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to prepare work accurately and timely
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Career-oriented with Interest in advancement
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Accounting is required
Salary: $80,000-$95,000 base
