Position Overview

We are hiring a Staff Accountant to our winning team!

The Staff Accountant role encompasses diverse responsibilities including inventory valuation, product costing, capital expenditure oversight, project accounting, and cost analysis support. This position involves monitoring inventory accuracy, collaborating with Operations for product setup, and preparing cost estimates. The Staff Accountant conducts analyses of product costs, purchase variances, and warranty claims, while managing capital expense programs and contributing to month-end closing routines. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and effective communication are essential for success in this role. The ideal candidate is proactive, independent, and capable of collaborating across departments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring inventories (component materials, rework, and finished goods) to ensure their accuracy. Activities include verifying physical counts, analyzing cycle count adjustments, research of count variances, reconciling perpetual records to the general ledger.
  • Responsible to work with Operations to ensure proper product set-up (for standard costs) for new or existing items. Monitor updates to existing products as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining and preparing standard cost estimates.
  • Prepare analysis of product costs, purchase price variances, freight charges.
  • Prepare analysis of warranty and RMA claims.
  • Manage capital expense programs, working with project managers to understand actual costs versus budget and anticipate potential cost overruns.
  • Perform month-end close routines, including preparing journal entries, reconciling inventory perpetual records, and preparing account reconciliations.
  • Assist with monthly margin and expense variance analysis; support the controllers to prepare financial cost analysis.
  • Analyze financial transactions for errors or deficiencies, takes action to resolve / correct disconnects, and implements improvements to prevent recurrences.
  • Support project accounting reporting and analysis by ensuring proper set-up in the ERP system and monitoring transactions to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting required
  • 1-3 years of experience in a public Accounting role
  • Experience in public accounting in a large manufacturing setting highly preferred
  • SAP/Large ERP experience highly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated and capable of working autonomously
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate effectively.
