Job Description

What is the role?

dotCMS is a cloud-based Digital Experience platform that is changing how enterprises do digital. We seek a Staff Accountant to keep our corporate numbers and budgets on track with impeccable accuracy.

As a Full-Time Staff accountant, you will join our dynamic team and contribute to expanding our business by accurately and systematically recording and managing financial transactions. The ideal candidate for this role has a natural passion for accounting and finance and a strong understanding of the P&L and balance sheet related to assets, liabilities, and equity. The Staff Accountant role is expected to play an enormously important supportive role, helping to maintain company finances with precision proactively.

We're proud to be 100% remote! dotCMS has been fully remote for over a decade and as an employee, you may work remotely from any location that is compatible with standard U.S. business hours (unless specified otherwise). Please note this is a full-time position, and we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

What is dotCMS?

Founded in 2003, dotCMS is the most agile, scalable and secure content management system for enterprise. Built on leading Java technology, dotCMS is an open-source, hybrid-headless content management system that gives developers the flexibility of a headless CMS while equipping marketers with no-code visual content authoring. Whether you're building a network of global websites, an employee intranet, a customer portal, or a single-page web application, dotCMS helps you manage content, images, and assets in one centralized location and deliver them to any channel. Some of our notable customers include Telus, Standard & Poors, Hospital Corporation of America, Royal Bank of Canada, Deutsche Bank, Comcast, Vodafone, Thomson Reuters, Dairy Queen, Lennox International, Chewy.com, and O'Reilly Autoparts.

Who are we, really?

At "the dot," you'll find a diverse team of authentic individuals who share the goal of building the most agile, scalable, and secure content management system, delighting customers, and having a lot of fun doing it. We're a curious, innovative, and collaborative group that works from anywhere, having been 100% remote long before a pandemic required it. Working remotely is in our DNA, whether it's to enjoy the beautiful views of new countries or just more "you" time outside of work. And since we don't gather around the water cooler in an office, we like to gather around the cool waters of Costa Rica a few times a year for our regular off-sites, where we blow off some steam and re-energize as a group.

What you'll bring to the team?

  • Pocess ownership of accounts payable function by seeking approvals, applying 3-way matches, conducting recalculations of transactions, vendor account creation, collecting W-9s, and assisting in the weekly check run process.
  • Maintain customer billing schedules, review contracts and/or purchase orders, build out revenue recognition transactions, and manage billing submissions and cash collections.
  • Ensure completeness of period-end reporting by identifying and scrutinizing transactions at month-end cut-off, chasing missing vendor billings, management estimates for expense accruals, and collecting employee travel and expense reimbursement submissions.
  • Takes ownership of the daily bank and credit card transaction reconciliations, assigned balance sheet reconciliations and schedules related to various asset and liability accounts, fixed & intangible assets, and assists with ad hoc projects.
  • Assist in fulfilling external auditor PBC requests, inquiries, and collection of fieldwork support (e.g., vendor agreements, bills, proof of payment details, and schedules)
  • Assist in reconciling sales tax with state filing reports, researching filing discrepancies, and other state and local tax or business registration activities.
  • Monitor policies and procedures for assigned departments and identify and suggest improvements for accounting reporting and recording procedures.

Why we get excited about you?

  • 2+ years of full-cycle accounting experience working in a high-volume and dynamic environment, preferably in software development.
  • Solid experience working with Excel reports containing advanced formulas (e.g., vlookups, pivot tables, index matches, conditional formatting).
  • Hands-on experience in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes related to the general ledger, fixed assets, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Comfortable with customer interactions when coordinating invoice submissions, navigating through customer payment portals, requesting purchase orders, and following up on past-due invoices.
  • Experienced in recording transactions with appropriate detail through accurate and consistent coding of general ledger accounts, job and project codes, and department classifications.
  • Experience creating detailed audit trails, fulfilling PBC requests, and summarizing transactions.
  • Comfortable with identifying potential accounting deficiencies, researching guidance, and articulating potential solutions or changes to management.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting is strongly recommended.
