Job Description

Us

We are a microbiome science company pioneering innovations in probiotics and living medicines to impact human and planetary health. Founded to realize the potential of microbes, our platform enables the translation of breakthrough science across a portfolio that encompasses both indication-specific and preventive applications across gastrointestinal and digestive health, women’s health, skin and dermatological health, oral care, pediatrics, gut-brain function, metabolic function, and nutrition.

Our consumer innovations are commercialized under Seed® with a mission to bring much-needed precision, efficacy, education and perspective-shifting science communication to the global category of probiotics. And our environmental research is conducted under SeedLabs, which was founded to develop novel bacterial interventions to enhance biodiversity and restore ecosystems impacted by human activity. LUCA Biologics, our women’s health biotech company co-founded with Dr. Jacques Ravel, develops living medicines targeting the vaginal microbiome for urogenital and reproductive health.

Founded in Venice, CA with a global team across Europe, Australia, Asia and North America, Seed Health was co-founded by Ara Katz and Raja Dhir, alongside a scientific board comprised of leading scientists, researchers, and clinicians across the fields of microbiology, immunology, bioinformatics, dermatology, oral health, vaginal health, gastroenterology, mental health, pediatrics, and nutrition.

Staff Bioinformatics Scientist • Seed Health

Seed Health is looking for a staff bioinformatics scientist for our dynamic, multidisciplinary R&D team to discover and develop innovative, microbiome-based, groundbreaking products for human health.

Who you are

You are passionate about discovery and translational analysis to unlock creative new insights from big multi-omics datasets (e.g. from clinical trials or multiple cohorts). In your current role, you are immersed in analytical work in bioinformatics and statistics, and work eloquently with large data sets, while also creatively adopting new tools to improve infrastructural and workflow efficiency. You are capable of designing and executing both defined and open-ended analysis plans in a fast-paced environment, and you are excited about using new tools and techniques to more efficiently and effectively execute on analyses. Ideally, you have familiarity with the nuances and requirements of clinical trial or human cohort datasets, including the need for detailed documentation, accurate metadata, statistical analysis plans, regulatory compliance, and cohort or  clinical trial designs. Additionally, you possess a strong background in bioinformatics, genomics, human clinical trial data, and cloud computing and have strong, demonstrated software engineering skills.

You thrive in collaborative, dynamic, and fast-paced environments, where you work closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers. You proactively integrate new tools and techniques to optimize workflows, automate processes, and enhance the analysis of multi-omics data using industry best-practices. Your communication skills allow you to effectively convey complex bioinformatics concepts to team members and partners with diverse backgrounds, fostering collaboration and the exchange of knowledge. You are eager to take on new challenges and contribute to the success of a data-driven, human-centric company.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with the VP of Discovery, Scientific Director, and the Bioinformatics team, to identify the best data analysis needs for discovery, preclinical, and clinical workflows and develop appropriate strategies to execute on them
  • Execute on complex analyses of clinical trial and human cohort data to support development of claims for products and to support Seed’s product development pipelines
  • Help develop a robust data infrastructure to support complex workflows
  • Deploy and use bioinformatic processing pipelines for the integration and analysis of human clinical and microbiome (metagenomic) data, including short read sequencing data.
  • Provide critical bioinformatics expertise to inform and shape academic and industry collaborations
  • Partner with Seed’s R/D leadership in the development of publications, abstracts, and IP
  • Communicate bioinformatics analysis results effectively with academic and industry partners around the globe.

Required Experience

  • PhD + Postdoc or industry experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative field.
  • 6+ years of industry or equivalent postdoctoral + industry experience , preferably with direct involvement in microbiome research and/or analysis of human clinical trial biomarker data
  • Experience managing or mentoring a team with demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience in the analysis of high-dimensional (multi-omics) datasets and associated multivariate statistics or modeling.
  • Solid knowledge of bioinformatics workflows in a Unix/Linux environment.
  • Proficiency in R
  • Ability to work in dynamic and fast-paced environments with tight deadlines.
  • Experience using cloud computing / HPC platforms (e.g., AWS) for bioinformatics workflows and data analysis.

Desired Experience

  • Hands-on experience working with metagenomic, metabolomic, and other multi-omics data
  • Knowledge of machine learning/AI techniques and classical statistics and their applications in bioinformatics and clinical trial analysis.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to a diverse audience.
