Job Description

Team: IT

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Cloud Engineer based in the United States.

This is a senior individual-contributor role shaping the cloud and platform foundation that powers a fast-growing digital product ecosystem. You will design and operate secure, scalable multi-account cloud infrastructure while driving automation, reliability, and developer productivity at scale. The role blends cloud architecture, infrastructure engineering, and software development with a strong emphasis on platform thinking and AI-assisted workflows. You will be a technical leader influencing standards, architecture decisions, and operational maturity across engineering teams. Expect to work across CI/CD, observability, security, and infrastructure automation in a highly collaborative, remote-first environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ownership-heavy environments and enjoys solving complex distributed systems challenges while improving engineering velocity and system resilience.

Accountabilities:

Own and evolve cloud infrastructure and platform systems, ensuring scalability, security, and operational excellence across multi-account AWS environments. Build automation and self-service capabilities that reduce developer friction and improve deployment speed and reliability.

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Terragrunt, focusing on modularity, consistency, and drift reduction.
  • Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines and deployment systems to enable safe, efficient, and automated releases.
  • Build internal platform tooling and automation to improve developer experience and reduce operational overhead.
  • Own infrastructure domains including networking, IAM, secrets management, compute, and observability.
  • Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and observability systems to improve incident response and system visibility.
  • Support compliance and security requirements including SOC2 readiness and audit alignment.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve system reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency across cloud environments.
  • Drive infrastructure modernization, including architectural improvements and legacy system migrations.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize cloud spend without compromising performance or velocity.
  • Mentor engineers and elevate engineering standards across infrastructure and platform practices.
  • Requirements:

Strong senior-level cloud engineering background with deep expertise in AWS, infrastructure-as-code, and production-scale systems. You bring both software engineering depth and infrastructure operational excellence, with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.

    • 8+ years of experience building and operating production-grade AWS infrastructure in multi-account environments.
    • Strong expertise in Terraform and infrastructure-as-code patterns at scale (Terragrunt strongly preferred).
    • Solid software engineering skills with experience writing production-quality code in Python, TypeScript, Bash, or similar.
    • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent).
    • Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, and incident response tooling (Datadog, CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, or similar).
    • Experience supporting production databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.
    • Familiarity with SOC2 compliance, audits, and secure infrastructure practices.
    • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and influence engineering standards across teams.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to drive clarity in ambiguous, high-impact environments.
    • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code) as part of daily workflows.
    • Experience safely evaluating and operationalizing AI-generated infrastructure or code in production settings.
    • Bonus: experience with internal developer platforms, containerized workloads (ECS, Fargate, Docker), or FinOps practices.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive compensation including salary and equity package
      • 100% employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents
      • Flexible remote-first work environment with adaptable scheduling
      • Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and additional paid wellness and volunteer days
      • 401(k) with employer match and financial wellness resources
      • Learning and development stipend plus home office setup support
      • Mental health, family planning, and caregiving support benefits
      • Annual stipend for remote work tools and productivity enhancements
      • Strong emphasis on work-life balance and family-friendly policies.
