Staff Consultant / Technical Fellow - Ground Mission Chief Engineer
The Engineering Capabilities Unit at Ball Aerospace is looking to expand our team with a results-oriented Ground Mission Chief Engineer to perform enterprise level engineering architecture for complex satellite ground systems. This position consists of engineering top-level solutions to meet various mission design parameters, architecting elegant solutions for cloud based and physical deployments to meet customer defined problem sets, providing vision to drive technical roadmaps and overseeing program engineering from proposal through program sunset.
What You'll Do:
- Apply extensive technical expertise and knowledge of ground systems to plan and coordinate full systems life cycle functions across mission segment.
- Partner with program execution teams for development of cloud based, ground systems with strong focus on system engineering and architecture/design.
- Develop System Engineering best practices and policies with an emphasis on Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.
- Partner with various customers to develop and drive vision for ground architecture and design. Engage with customers and management to gain understanding, trust, and buy-in.
- Interface effectively with people at all levels and from diverse areas, seek out responsibilities and opportunities to contribute, provide leadership to groups and teams and guidance to less experienced employees.
- Prepare and give presentations to management/customers.
- Support program gates as defined by customer, such as the System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR).
- Lead trade studies, performance analyses, risk and opportunity assessments.
- Lead, motivate, and provide technical leadership to multi-discipline development teams.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You'll Need:
- Staff Consultant - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field plus 16 or more years of related experience.
- Technical Fellow - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field plus 20 or more years of related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
- Experience in Amazon Web Services and Cloud Based Development.
- Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Experience in Agile development methodologies.
- Knowledge and experience applying DevSecOps concepts.
- Understanding of security and information assurance requirements.
- Experience with modern architectures such as messaging architectures, event-driven architectures, and microservice architectures.
- Experience in conducting and documenting high-level multi-discipline trade studies and advocating for buy-in from stakeholders.
- Experience across all development lifecycle stages, from business development through maintenance.
- Experience in designing, developing, and testing software for systems using programming languages such as C/C++, JAVA, Ruby/Python, and other languages/applications.
- Experience with modern software development practices including the use of software version control, coding standards and style guides.
- Excellent communication skills.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel aโnd local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.
Relocation for this position is available.
Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR STAFF CONSULTANT: $168,000 - $211,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
- HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR TECHNICAL FELLOW: $175,500 - $243,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
