Staff Data Engineer
As a Staff Data Engineer under the Data Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in designing, creating, deploying and maintaining Paylocity's data platform. You will demonstrate accountable ownership, unmitigated curiosity, a strong desire for continuous improvement while empowering and mentoring team members to do the same.

Who you are:
The Data Engineering organization applies principles and techniques of engineering and mathematics to the development of data models, data processing algorithms and the development of the data platform.
- You have a proven track record of designing, building, and productionizing highly reliable enterprise-level data solutions at scale.
- You have experience working in systems that have significant consequences of failure, a high degree of ambiguity, or to a standard of quality well exceeding that of the current system.
- You care about quality, have a growth mindset, and are excited to work on cutting-edge technology!
During the first six months, you will:
- Be sought out as a technical SME by the whole team/product area. Take on a leading role in a major epics/subsystems/system design. Regularly mentor or coach multiple engineers.?
- Regularly give feedback through PRs to the rest of the team to optimize and standardize data models and processing algorithms
- Occasionally suggest updates/changes to the Organization-wide Data Standards
- Regularly ask data quality related questions around Data Models supported by the team
- Regularly monitor Support dashboards
- Frequently review PRs providing impactful suggestions and improvements
- Be involved in story planning, including scope definition, AC definition, etc...
- Frequently keep up to date on automated strategies and inform teams of new tools and practices. Contribute to decisions on tooling, both custom-built and third-party, for the category and the company
- Regularly mentor other data engineers and conducts knowledge transfer sessions on a regular basis
- Frequently review policy proposals and documentation that impacts the team
- Frequently review design documents and provides feedback
- Be frequently involved in the design process of new projects
- Effectively deliver projects with a significant amount of complexity. Find ways to deliver requested scope faster, and tackle tech debt proactively. ?
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a computer science, engineering, or technology-related field, or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
- In-depth knowledge of software engineering principles and a solid understanding of industry-standard best practices and methodologies
- Python programming, with a proven track record of effectively mentoring and leading others in development.
- Experience with DevOps practices and methodologies, with an understanding of industry tools and technologies.
- Experience and willingness to work on-call shifts as needed to support the team.
Preferred Experience:
- Developing production level systems on the cloud, preferably Amazon Web Services (AWS) certifications, especially professional-level certifications.
- Knowledge of Network, Infrastructure, and Cloud Security.
- Familiarity with the following technologies with the ability to utilize them in a production environment:
- PySpark
- Airflow or AWS MWAA
- AWS Data Services such as AWS EMR, AWS Kinesis, AWS DMS, and others

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $118,945 - $218,382/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed. Base pay information is based on market location.
