Staff Data Engineer, Batteries

The Role

Cuberg is commercializing a next-generation lithium metal battery to power the rise of electric mobility. To support Cuberg's rapid growth, we are looking to hire a Data Engineer to expand and optimize our data pipeline architecture. The Data Engineer will support our scientists, engineers, and business team members to enable efficient data analysis.

Ideal candidates are experienced building out data pipelines and enjoy optimizing and redesigning data architecture systems. They must be self-directed and able to effectively communicate across multiple teams of varying disciplines. They are detail-oriented, take pride in the quality of their work, and perform well in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic startup environment.

Responsibilities:

• Work with management, the team, and other departments to define requirements for data systems that support both development and operations across the company
• Contribute to building a culture of engineering excellence within the team
• Maintain and deploy services to a data platform distributed across both AWS and GCP
• Implement scalable data systems using orchestration tools and big-data technologies
• Leverage batch processes, streaming services, relational databases, and distributed data stores to create highly available datasets that contain scientific and business insights
• Develop analytics systems for monitoring key processes across the business
• Contribute to advanced analytics and machine learning projects focused on battery intelligence

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals (data structures, oop and functional programming patterns, writing clean code, version control, etc.)
• Experience designing scalable data and information systems
• Experience leveraging open-source big data technologies (Spark, Kafka, Delta, etc.)
• Experience tuning and optimizing SQL queries on large datasets
• Proven ability to apply analytical thinking to solve engineering problems
• Strong communication skills with technical stakeholders outside of your discipline
• (Preferred) Familiarity with machine learning and deploying models
• (Preferred) Experience managing the deployment of services to cloud platforms (Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
• (Preferred) Deep understanding of battery data, especially cycling telemetry

The San Francisco / Bay Area cash compensation (base + bonus) range for this full-time position is $162,000 - $192,000 + equity + benefits.
