Flight Itinerary (About The Role)

We are looking for Software Engineers to join our Data Platform group. This position will be ideally based in our Dallas office(TX) at central time. San Francisco, CA & Santa Monica, CA are alternate locations. For true rock stars eastern time and remote are a possibility. Our Data Platform group is responsible for the software to support data at FLYR. The FLYR Data Platform Group enables access to consistent high quality  data for the rest of our developers and data scientists as they move new software features and ML models into production for our airline customers.

All of FLYR’s software development and data science teams depend on the data models, pipelines, and tools owned by our Data Platform team to bring leading-edge ML-based products to market. Our Data Platform group manages the processes and tools on our core product data models and evolves our warehouse data model to support FLYR’s product evolution and our growth into new markets. 

As a software tools team, the group owns the tools and processes for schema change management and the standardized frameworks for data quality systems and  data pipelines used across FLYR. The group owns the tools used by our customer-facing Delivery teams to build customer data pipelines and ingest new customer data.  Our Data Platform group works on mission-critical projects that have an instant meaningful impact for FLYR’s product offerings, and power revenue for the world’s biggest airline brands. What Your Journey Will Look Like (Responsibilities)
    • As a staff or principal engineer you will lead the development of data pipeline and ETL frameworks, library code, and tools.  Your software will be used by FLYR’s professional services and Delivery staff to power data pipelines across FLYR’s portfolio of airline and transportation industry customers.

    • Hands-on engineering leadership to define and deliver production data pipeline framework.  

    • Define architecture and implement library code, frameworks and tools powering ingest, transform, and management of hundreds of pipelines operating on large volumes of batch and streaming data.

    • Contribute to your group’s feature roadmap through close collaboration with professional services data engineers to understand workflow and tooling needs.  

    • Delivery of large software features through technical coordination of a team of software engineers. Lead complex software development projects from inception through technical architecture review to deployment. 

    • Ensure quality software through technical design reviews and code reviews.

    • Advocate for and lead process improvement within our fast-growing engineering organization.

    • Coordinate with DevOps on defining monitoring requirements and practices for production data pipelines.

    • Collaborate closely with  lead Data Scientists, Product Managers and ML Engineers on teams across FLYR to understand data needs and lead the design and delivery of tools, software, and data to meet those needs.

What To Pack For This Trip (Qualifications)
    • Extensive software engineering experience with data-intensive systems and data-driven products. Proven track record of significant technical contributions on complex interesting systems. 

      • Quantitative educational background (Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Economics, or other related fields

    • Expert software engineering skills, Extensive experience in the design, development along with,

      • High volume Data Processing

      • Significant experience working with ETL systems

      • Cloud based data management such as GCP (preferred), Azure, AWS

      • Ability to learn & support libraries, tools used in peer teams.

    • Recent & strong Python coding, hands-on troubleshooting experience.

      • Expert in either Python, Java, similar object oriented language. 

    • Expert or recent hands on experience in,

      • Database backend technology such as BigQuery, Hadoop, Redis

      • Orchestration Tools - such as Cloud Composer, Airflow, Argo

      • Query Optimization/Build tools - such as DBT

      • Observability/Monitoring tools - such as Datadog, MonteCarlo

      • Confluent/Apache beam, IBM-MQ, Confluent/Apache beam, Dataflow

    • Staff engineers are expected to be strong communicators and have experience collaborating across multiple teams, 

      • Creating design visuals 

      • Writing design documents 

      • Socializing & effectively articulating design decisions through the approval process with internal teams and external partners

      • Conceiving & implementing Proof of Concepts (POCs)

      • Leading & driving overall delivery of target feature/product implementations

    • Staff engineers at FLYR have experience mentoring new members, growing the engineering-excellence culture, and influencing the larger data science and engineering organizations.

Compensation: The salary range for this role is commensurate with experience and is as follows:
$169,000—$237,000 USD
