Staff Data Scientist for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for algorithm development; collection, analysis and visualization of complex biological data. The data scientist will have an expert knowledge of machine learning and statistical concepts. Similarly, the data scientist will have a history of successfully deploying ML/DL models in a production environment especially in biotech space.

This position is part of the data science located in Sacramento, California and will be fully remote. At Microbiology, our vision is to ensure that every patient has access to the right antibiotic at the right time.

You will be a part of the data science team and report to the Data Science Manager responsible for developing tools for processing, analyzing and visualization of complex biological data. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Build, manage and automate various machine learning and statistical algorithms.
  • Develop various tools for interactive and static visualization
  • Collaborate with software engineers and microbiologists with the goal of productionalizing ML/DL models
  • Provide data science support in areas of tools and algorithm development
  • Deploy and operationalize MLOps with focus on model onboarding, operations, and monitoring of workflows; model evaluation and explainability, optimization of model hyperparameters, version control; automation and scheduling of model training.
  • Provide best practices, executing POC for automated model operations at scale; design benchmarks, metrics, and monitoring to measure and improve services.
  • Point of contact for IT and vendors, creating and deploying tools and environment for different project phases

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Master's degree OR Doctorate degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Microbiology, Software Engineering, Biological/Chemical Engineering)
  • 8+ years collecting, processing, analyzing and visualizing biological data (experimental design, sample size calculations
  • 8+ years of experience developing and productionizing ML/DL models
  • 6+ years of experience building CI/CD deployment and containerizing ML models and web application.
  • 6+ years Experience working with Python/C++/R, Spark framework, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Sckitlearn, AWS technologies like SageMaker, Redshift, S3, EC2, Data Pipeline
  • Demonstrated track record of working with subject matter experts and stakeholders in clarifying the capabilities and limitations of Data Science tools in solving problems

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Building and leveraging visualization libraries and dashboard for data analysis (Plotly, Matplotlib, Seaborn, ggplot2, tableau etc)
  • Familiarity with Rapid Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing (Rapid - AST)
  • Leveraging DevOps/MLOps best practices
  • Software engineering development cycle and deep knowledge of MLOps and DevOps workflows and tools, such as Kubernetes, containers (docker and RunC), and GPU-based models

The salary range OR the hourly range for this role is 135-150k. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
