Staff Electrode Design Engineer

Cuberg, a Northvolt Advanced Technology Center operating in Silicon Valley, is seeking a Staff Electrode Design Engineer to join their team. Cuberg is commercializing next-generation battery technology to power the future of electric mobility, offering longer ranges and flight times, greater payloads, and lower cost of ownership. This groundbreaking lithium metal battery has been validated by the U.S. Department of Energy, and is fully compatible with existing lithium-ion manufacturing infrastructure to accelerate time-to-market. As the Staff Electrode Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and commercialization of this innovative technology.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop high-performance lithium metal battery electrodes.
• Conduct research and development to improve battery performance, including energy density, power output, and cycling life.
• Design experiments to evaluate new materials and test their suitability for use in novel electrode designs.
• Analyze and interpret data to draw conclusions and make recommendations for future work.
• Develop and maintain electrode fabrication processes to ensure consistent quality and performance.
• Lead testing and validation efforts to ensure product reliability and safety, including compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Collaborate with supplier partners to source and evaluate materials, and maintain relationships with key vendors.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in electrode design for lithium-ion or other battery technologies.
• Proficiency in electrochemical testing techniques and analysis, including cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, and capacity fade testing.
• Strong understanding of battery materials and chemistry, including knowledge of lithium metal batteries and their properties.
• Familiarity with electrode manufacturing processes and techniques, including coating, drying, and calendaring.
• Experience with data analysis and interpretation, using software such as MATLAB or Python.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

The San Francisco / Bay Area cash compensation (base + bonus) range for this full-time position is $161,000 - $192,000 + equity + benefits.
