This exciting Staff Engineer position will be part of the transformation journey supporting Loyalty & Benefit, within American Express Technologies (AET). Our Staff Engineers have both deep technical and strategic knowledge that drive superior solutions. If solving complex engineering solution, deeply hands-on, and passionate about working across engineers from various groups to create unified re-usable solutions to solve customer needs that will directly create customer delight, there's no better place to build a career. You will be responsible for solving various engineering solutions, such as bring new technology solutions, enhancing application performance, technical roadmap for transformation of classic set of application to R42, Data publishing strategy and solution using big data and machine learning, In-memory data grid and compute, so on and so forth.

Key Accomplishments:

  • Highly collaborative and provide technical expertise to help engineers overcome technical problems.
  • You will constantly pursue and learn industry leading/innovative solutions. Build high awareness of open-source technologies and communities that enable high volume low latency systems.
  • You will work on cutting edge technologies like microservice based event driven architecture built using cloud native approach and golang, data publishing to big data and built models using machine learning, transforming classic technology applications to modern stack etc.
  • Work with the engineering team to implement new scalable components, 50-60% of the time is spend on coding and hands-on technical implementation, comes up with architecture, design, engineering, and implementation of components.
  • Provide hands-on solution to develop micro services and prototypes next generation of applications and proof of concepts for the new technologies.
  • Work with Principal Engineers and Architects to define solution requirements and technical implementation approach.
  • Drive both high-level and detailed technical designs and lead design reviews.
  • Actively participate in team and company-wide Architecture and Engineering discussions and forums.
  • Sets up best practices for software development and test.
  • Identifies opportunities to adopt innovative technologies
  • Analyze, design, program, debug, and modify software for use in local, networked, cloud-based or Internet-related environments.
  • Responsible for health and quality of the code across the portfolio, including leadership functional testing, and CI/CD tool integration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of active Engineering experience in a complex environment and/or comparable experience.
  • Experience with design and implementation of distributed applications with microservices architecture experience
  • Experience with applications with high throughput and low latency needs.
  • Hands-on coding experience in the technology stack like (Java/Go, Docker, K8s, Kafka, Elastic and Postgres relevant frameworks, languages, OS libraries, etc.).
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies, and takes pride in how fast they develop working software
  • Recent hand-on experience with modern software engineering concepts (e.g.CI/CD, DevOps, containers, microservices, etc.).
  • Proven ability to transform business requirements into high-quality production software.
  • Experience with big data technology and machine learning would be a plus.
  • Experience with in-memory data grid and compute such as Gridgain or any other is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize the performance of enterprise software systems and/or components.
  • Ability to participate in the prevention, diagnosis, and resolution of system outages as an expert in the underlying platform architecture.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field a plus.

Salary Range: $170,000.00 to $255,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
