What Youâll Do
At Samsung Semiconductor Inc, we are always working on innovating for the next generation wireless mobile platform architecture. As the 5G era is evolving, the commercialization of 5G radio technology in the User Equipment (UE) at millimeter-wave (mmW) frequencies requires us to look for a talent with strong background and hands-on experience in RF Systems engineering and architecture for cellular SOC, with emphasis on 5G and beyond millimeter-wave applications.
You will work closely with RFIC, Modem System, RF SW, and platform HW teams to develop the next generation platform for wireless communication systems. You will be able to work across different functional teams and to present comfortably to technical audiences.
Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Diego, CA office 3 days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time with occasional travel including international.

- Analyze next generation mmW RF-Modem system architecture using Excel, Matlab, Python, and SystemVue.
- Support product architecture definition and mmW SOC RF specifications development.
- Co-work with RFIC design team and RF System algorithms team on antenna phased array codebook generation, Tx/Rx chains calibration, RF impairments compensation, and Tx linearization.
- Drive validation and commercialization of key mmW RF-Modem system features at the module and platform levels.
- Drive engagement with key OEMs in providing RF systems architecture expertise to validate requirements and support phone set development with next generation mmW cellular chipset.
What You Bring
- Bachelors with 10+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters with 8+ years or PhD with 5+ years in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science with emphasis on RF circuits and systems, Applied EM, Microwave engineering, Digital Signal Processing, and/or Communication Systems or related field preferred.
- 5+ years in RF systems engineering experience, with expertise in âantenna-to-modemâ system architecture design.
- Ability to co-work and succeed in a multi-functional and multinational work environment.
- In-depth knowledge of 5G NR FR2 cellular radio standards and carrier requirements.
- Strong knowledge of RF systems design concepts and modem dependent issues.
- Experience in translating radio requirements into RF system specifications and architecture implications.
- Hands-on experience in RF systems modeling (ADS, SystemVue, Matlab) and testing for analyzing RF-Modem system KPIs.
- Sound knowledge of communication systems theory and digital signal processing principles and applications.
- Strong understanding of mmW antenna phased-array theory, characterization, and calibration methods.
- Hands-on experience with RF impairments compensation and calibration algorithms.
- Hands-on experience with APT/DPD techniques for mmW transmitter efficiency/linearity enhancement techniques.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
