The Team You’ll Work With

This role is on the Liquidity team. We are changing the way the world experiences private market liquidity. Our board member, Marc Andreessen, summed our mission nicely in one of his blog posts.

We are a small team of 12 individuals. The scope and impact of each individual are immense. We are biased toward action and believe in the mantra of build -> measure -> learn. On the team, you'll collaborate closely with our product manager and designer to understand the motivation (why) behind what a customer wants, defining the scope of work (what), and build a solution (how) with your engineering peers to deliver the desired customer value.

Diversity is our strength; our team members are from many different nationalities and technical backgrounds, and we value the unique characteristics that make us who we are. To uphold our values, we believe that trust and humility are of the utmost importance.

Our development philosophy closely mirrors Agile Scrum, but we are not afraid to deviate from it. We care about solving customer problems first and foremost.

The Problems You’ll Solve

As a Staff Engineer, you will be in charge of building and shaping our liquidity solutions. In particular, you’ll be the primary owner of our existing Automated Trading System. You’ll work closely with Design, Product and other groups to build products in a modular, scalable manner. You’ll work closely across multiple business lines to deliver business outcomes, as well as improve the overall architecture of our software ecosystem.

About You

You deeply care about your user and are relentless in your pursuit to build enterprise grade applications. You are energized by solving deep problems collaboratively and can easily transition between a Solver and Tech Lead archetype. Additionally:

  • You have 7+ years of backend or full-stack experience building production systems. (Bonus if you have worked on trading systems or marketplaces)

  • You have experience in architecting complex SaaS products with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and event driven architecture.

  • You are passionate about some elements of our tech stack (Kafka, C++, TypeScript Python, Kafka, K8s, AWS, GRPC)

  • You are excited to work with stakeholders across engineering, product, business

  • You have a desire to become a product domain expert and refine ambiguous product requirements to deliver customer value.

  • You are a strong communicator that can communicate with different stakeholders and meet them where they are.

  • You are an active participant and have a strong analytical opinion and position on how software should be engineered.

  • You are eager to move fast, but recognize when to build for the future.

Most importantly you're excited to work on a product that will fundamentally change the way private companies view liquidity.

The Interview Process

Our team believes that interviews are a two-way process and we strive to make them enjoyable without any “gotchas.” We do not do LeetCode-style interviews, no one will quiz you on writing a doubly-linked list :D

The interview process starts with a call with a member of our recruiting team who will tell you more about the job and the company. Then, you’ll meet the engineering lead for the Liquidity organization, who will walk you through the specifics of the position, the team structure, what we’re looking for, and of course, answer any questions you will have. This interview will last 45 minutes. Then, there’s a technical pair programming interview where you’ll be working on a practical liquidity problem in the language of your choice with one of our liquidity engineers, your future team member. Finally, we will schedule you for another four or five meetings with other team members to discuss everything from Carta’s culture to cross-team collaboration and what you can expect, and what is expected from you.

Salary

Carta’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, exceptional benefits, and, for applicable roles, commissions plans. Our minimum cash compensation (salary + commission if applicable) range for this role is:

  •  $232,000 - $290,000 in San Francisco, CA + Santa Clara, CA + New York, NY

  •  $208,000 - $261,000 in Seattle, WA

Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography, candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.

We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to providing a positive interview experience for every candidate. If accommodations due to a disability or medical condition are needed, connect with us via email at [email protected]. As a company, we value fairness, helpfulness, transparency, leadership and build our teams around these values. Check out our careers page to get to know us better as you think about your next step at Carta.
