We're building a more trustworthy Internet. Come join us.

Staff Software Engineer - Monetization Engineering - Full-Stack

The Fastly Monetization Engineering team is looking for an experienced, highly collaborative full-stack software engineer to evolve, design, and build systems, APIs & interfaces that are part of Fastly’s Billing Platform. You’ll work across functions to design and create tools and systems that improve visibility and access to handle Fastly’s rapidly-growing family of products. You will also help expand our ability to gain value from the data pipelines powering our real-time logging, stats, and control plane applications.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, maintain, and test broad systems & tools as part of the Billing Platform
  • Work directly with stakeholders and the Product team to find and evaluate opportunities to remove barriers for groups at Fastly to create and sell new product lines
  • Design systems that allow internal teams from across the organization to get the data they need to operate with a focus on stability, performance & scalability.
  • Develop design and architecture documents as a way of collaborating across groups in the design of new systems and APIs
  • Lead and participate in the building, deployment, and maintenance of the software systems that collect, transport, and make data available to the Fastly organization
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and customers to craft interactive visualizations of the customers usage and billing metrics at scale
  • Make your support available to your team when and where they need it — a time zone compatible with the continental US, where your team will be, is a must for this role
  • Participate in an on-call rotation

Work Hours: This position will require you to be available during core business hours, and may also require participation in on-call support rotation as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • In order to be successful in this role, you have at least 6 years of software development experience with any of the following languages: Java, C, C++, C#, GoLang, or Ruby
  • You have 2 years of experience developing and testing applications with React or other JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience with a relational and/or nosql database is a plus
  • Experience writing code that is performant, maintainable, clear, and concise
  • Experience with complex production systems that support the needs of a rapidly growing business
  • Experience in projects related to low-latency data collection and analysis
  • Experience mentoring, guiding, and coaching team members
Preferred Qualifications
We value a variety of voices, so this is not a laundry list. You’ll be a good candidate if you have experience in SOME of these:
  • Relational and non-relational storage systems

Work Location(s) & Travel Requirements

This position will be based out of one of Fastly’s offices, preferably in San Francisco, CA or Denver, CO. Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home. This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.

Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $181,220 to $226,520.

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.

Benefits

We care about you. Fastly works hard to create a positive environment for our employees, and we think your life outside of work is important too. We support our teams with great benefits that start on the first day of your employment with Fastly. Curious about our offerings?

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance. Why Fastly?

  • We have a huge impact. Fastly is a small company with a big reach. Not only do our customers have a tremendous user base, but we also support a growing number of open source projects and initiatives. Outside of code, employees are encouraged to share causes close to their heart with others so we can help lend a supportive hand.

  • We love distributed teams. Fastly’s home-base is in San Francisco, but we have multiple offices and employees sprinkled around the globe.

  • We value diversity. Growing and maintaining our inclusive and diverse team matters to us. We are committed to being a company where our employees feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work and have the ability to be successful -- every day.

  • We are passionate. Fastly is chock full of passionate people and we’re not ‘one size fits all’. Fastly employs authors, pilots, skiers, parents (of humans and animals), makeup geeks, coffee connoisseurs, and more. We love employees for who they are and what they are passionate about.

We’re always looking for humble, sharp, and creative folks to join the Fastly team. If you think you might be a fit please apply! A fully completed application and resume or CV are required when applying.
