Job Description Summary
Candidate is responsible for planning, managing, developing and overseeing the execution of Noise, Vibration, and Harshness data collection and analysis. Work involves testing/analyzing various transmission components and powertrain systems. The NVH Engineer will be responsible for configuring test systems, data acquisition tools, and analysis. As well as generating test reports and working closely as an interface between Product Engineering and our valued internal/external customers.
Job Description
Essential Duties:
- Extensive understanding of Allison products and associated powertrain systems.
- Utilization of a systems engineering approach to design, develop, implement, and execute reliable, repeatable testing in support of business needs and timing.
- Planning, managing, and overseeing the execution of NVH tests.
- Documenting test events/results through Test Reports, log entries and database entries as appropriate.
- Preparing, or assisting in preparation of program bids or requests for cost estimates.
- Observing applicable procedures and practices as delineated in PE Procedures, and Standard Procedures.
- Working with a high level of independent judgment and decision making.
- Establishing and updating best practices and standardized testing procedures.
- Evaluating and implementing new technologies as demanded by the evolving industry challenges and product validation needs.
- Evaluating, partaking in, and implementing training material as needed for the NVH testing group.
- Demonstrating cross-functional capabilities to help align learnings with business objectives for product development.
- Representing the Allison NVH team in various capacities as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree/experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 10+ years of full-time Mechanical/Automotive Systems Engineering experience
- 5+ years of Engineering experience with a focus in Noise, Vibration and Harshness.
- Proficient with NVH analysis tools (Siemens LMS preferred)
- Proficient in oral and written business communication.
- Experience in laboratory test environment as well as Field Engineering.
- High level of technical experience with noise and vibration analysis, data acquisition equipment and systems, and heavy duty test equipment or equivalent experience with industrial systems.
- Ability to generate clear and concise formal presentations and proposals.
- High level of analytical ability.
- High level of interpersonal skills.
- Ability to set and meet goals for all deliverables.
- Demonstrated high-level technical ability.
- Proficient with computer operations, including Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to travel as needed
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 15+ years of full-time Mechanical/Automotive Systems Engineering experience
- 10+ years of Engineering experience with a focus in Noise, Vibration and Harshness.
- Balancing experience with a focus in grade/quality.
- Torsional vibration measurement and analysis
- Experience with Modal testing methods and analytical tools
- Extensive knowledge of automatic transmission operation, clutches, controls (both hydraulic and electrical), hydraulics, gears, electric machines, and hybrid and electrified propulsion systems desired but not required.
- Extensive knowledge and troubleshooting experience with various powertrain systems preferred.
