American Battery Solutions / AESI has a full-time opening for a Staff Firmware Engineer in Hudson, Massachusetts.

 

 

Job Summary:

 

 

The Staff Firmware Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and execution of embedded systems in stationary Energy storage solutions. This individual will work with global cross-functional teams including Product, Platforms, Quality Assurance (QA) and hardware (HW) designers from concept to mass production.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Design the next generation of Battery Management System / power conversion system of a stationary battery storage product to balance safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Design, implement, and test communication methods for battery packs at scale. (i.e. container full of Li-Ion Battery).
  • Develop State Machines and control schemes for grid tied bi-directional Inverters.
  • Architect data sharing and data flow within the ARM based micro.
  • Design device drivers for micro peripherals in bare metal systems.
  • Develop, implement, and test algorithms for State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), (State of Energy) SOE, Cell balancing and similar in ARM controller.
  • Work closely with system Engineers to identify safety critical software components and it's mitigation.
  • Participate in Failure Analysis: FMEA, FMEDA, HARA. Propose, implement, and test the solutions.
  • Design and implement secure firmware upgrade.
  • Manage secure data communication over network and protocols like MQTT.
  • Develop unit tests and perform software/hardware integration.
  • Drive results - within constraints of Product life cycle development and production at scale.
  • Provide Engineering support to contract manufacturing factory (China / Mexico).
  • Represent the business unit at conferences and work with our partners.
  • Stay current in battery technology and disseminate this information to other design centers.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.

 

 

Position Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Embedded Software Engineering.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in Embedded field.
  • Experience working in Real Time RTOS, ARM based system and associated peripherals.
  • Able to work in fast pace environment and make decisions when all the data is not available.
  • Experience working on Power Electronics / Inverters and various Li-Ion chemistry preferred.
  • Strong modeling skills using cell / Hardware in the Loop (HIL) preferred.
  • Experience in large scale energy storage preferred.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 10%.
