What you'll do (Design & Development)

• Coach and mentor other engineers in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed
• Make recommendations for overall application system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance
• Support the build and deployment pipeline and when necessary, both diagnose and solve production support issues
• Identify, scope, and architect solutions for new features while considering technology alternatives and all impacts / tradeoffs
• Work closely with Product, Design, and QA to deliver world-class digital experiences
• Get the opportunity to stay ahead of new technologies with an eye to evaluating and potentially incorporating them into your team's architecture; introduce new technologies that have ROI / influence
• Apply understanding to constantly improve the cloud infrastructure that powers our high-performance, consumer-scale site and mobile apps
• Lead large initiatives within the team, including technical design / delivery of complex features across multiple systems as H-E-B improves the customer and Partner user experiences
• Recommend changes to processes and tools at the group / dept level based on industry standards, patterns, and practices
• Influence others in technical decision-making / technology adoption within their domain
• Diagnose / troubleshoot extremely complex issues independently
• Develop technical roadmaps and lead engineers across one or more squads to deliver initiatives
• Help grow Digital Engineering by driving execution of organization-wide activities
• Identify ways to improve codebases, solutions to complex problems, and effectively propose paths forward to drive outcomes
• Create documentation and training related to technology stacks and standards
• Operate with minimal direction to drive large-scale initiatives
• Provide end-to-end support to applications

Do you have what it takes to succeed?

• Desire to build world-class applications using a variety of tools including Java, Spring Boot, GCP, AWS, Kubernetes
• Ability to work closely with senior engineering staff, product managers, and design experts to learn about HEB customers and build them quality experiences
• Ability to grow a stellar team of engineers through interviewing
• An interest in refactoring HEB's existing infrastructure to bring the web and mobile web experience into the digital age
• Ability to research new technologies with your teammates and make choices that will help direct web development for HEB into the future
• A desire to grow your expertise in modern web development
• 10+ years of application development experience and comparable schooling (CS degree, bootcamp diploma)

Who You Are

• You have experience with Java and Spring Boot
• You have experience with Microservices and Cloud computing such as AWS or GCP
• You have experience with Kubernetes (plus)
• You have 10+ years of application development experience
• You have experience with microservice architecture
• You have an ownership mentality and a consistent track record of timely delivery of high-quality software
• You have skills in multiple languages, technologies, and frameworks and can quickly on-board to projects in minimal time
• You're capable of learning new technologies, processes, or business quickly and effectively
• You approach problem-solving holistically and consider solutions through a combination of technology and process
• You have an expert understanding of development methodologies and processes
• You understand cross-tech stacks and scalability and reliability implications
• You can coordinate work for a group of engineers on major initiatives
• You have expert knowledge of system architecture and design patterns
• You have at least 3+ years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer, or comparable experience
• You have experience with common software engineering tools such as Git, JIRA, Confluence, etc.
• You have a high level of comfort in Lean Startup or Agile development methodologies
• You're familiar with build and release procedures and tools (e.g., gitlab CI/CD, certificates and Terraform)
