WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
TIFIN is looking for a Staff LLM Data Scientist with Large Language Model (LLM) experience who can work on generative AI products across various holdings for our early-stage ventures. This person will work end-to-end, training, and productionalizing models, as well as focus on language translation. We are looking for a creative thinker who can be hands-on. The ideal candidate is passionate about Generative AI and LLM and their application in the investment space.Â
You must be a motivated and tenacious self-starter who is comfortable interpreting technology requirements, based on business requirements, and implementing them with maximum impact on the users. You will be expected to develop technology that minimizes technical debt while maximizing the customer experience. This is a high-impact role on a lean team that is results-and execution-oriented. We are a team of do-ers!
THE ROLE:
- Design and fine-tune open source and proprietary LLMs for various tasks such as answering questions, summarization, reasoning and planning, etc.
- Build advanced Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline including rewriting, embedding fine-tuning, hybrid search, reranking, knowledge graphs, etc.
- Implement a comprehensive evaluation framework and metrics for model performance
- Deploy models into production environments and ensure low latency, reliability, and scalability. Â
- Collaborate with product team and software engineering team to build end-to-end product systems.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Ph.D./Masters/Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or relevant field Â
- Experienced in the field of NLP/LLM and well-versed with the current and latest state-of-the-art research Â
- Hands-on experience in various LLM fine-tuning techniques (e.g. LORA), LLM inference frameworks (e.g. vLLM), advanced RAG pipelines
- Excellent knowledge of LLM evaluation methods and metrics
- 6-8+ years of machine learning/deep learning experience within frameworks such as TensorFlow and/or PyTorch
- 2+ years of practical experience in the development of generative AI applicationsÂ
- Experience using LLMs to translate different languagesÂ
- Publications at reputable machine learning conference or journal
- Proficient in Python and SQLÂ
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to visualize data in the most effective way possible for a given project or study
- Thrives in a highly demanding, entrepreneurial, and fast-paced environment
- Is a top performer and has a proactive, "doer", and problem-solver mentalityÂ
- Is highly flexible, has a good tolerance for ambiguity, and can quickly adapt to changing priorities

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS PACKAGE:
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $190,000 - $225,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

A note on location. While we have team centers in New York City, San Francisco, Charlotte, Mumbai, Bangalore and Madrid, TIFIN is headquartered in Boulder, CO and our preference is to build the team here whenever possible, so relocation packages are available for any candidate willing to relocate to the Boulder area.Â
