Job Description

Staff NPI Manufacturing Engineer

Lunar is searching for a highly experienced Staff NPI Manufacturing Engineer to develop our approach towards prototyping and pre-production. This person will be responsible for planning and executing our NPI processes, playing a key, high-visibility role at Lunar that will directly impact program schedules and success. This person will work closely with our product engineering teams to be the product expert for the Manufacturing Engineering team and the Operations organization as a whole.

Lunar Energy was founded to transition homes to 100% clean energy—making our electricity greener, our air cleaner and our energy more safe, secure and reliable for all. We’re a fast-growing, global company building the world’s best clean energy products to electrify all homes and connect communities to form clean, resilient virtual power plants.

On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely…

  • Develop and showcase a strong understanding of our product architecture, assembly steps, and impact of upcoming design changes, often building prototypes firsthand
  • Build our in-house NPI capabilities by designing/optimizing NPI lines, setting up data infrastructure (ex. MES systems, issue tracking systems), and sourcing needed equipment
  • Implement strong change control practices, and guide team members across the organization in following these practices
  • Work towards our daily production targets for our in-house NPI lines, working with the Manufacturing Technician team to execute the build, Operations teams to ensure supply of correct parts to the line, and TPM teams to align on timeline and disposition of builds
  • Create solid dashboarding of production metrics and build status to communicate to Engineering and Operations leadership
  • Design and build fixtures, iterating quickly to support new revisions of assemblies
  • Perform DOEs as needed to validate engineering concepts or manufacturing equipment
  • Visit our manufacturing sites to share knowledge with Production teams working on products that have cleared the NPI stage

Desired Skills:

  • 6+ years in a manufacturing or pilot environment developing early manufacturing processes, setting up pilot production lines, and running prototype and pre-production builds
  • Capable of being extremely hands on with building engineering validation prototypes and pre-production units
  • Familiarity with statistical process control in analysis of quality issues
  • History of working on NPI programs and handling large amounts of design churn
  • Experience with torque driving, adhesive dispense, soldering, and leak testing processes
  • PCBA experience is a major plus- especially on power electronics
  • CAD design experience is a major plus
  • Strong project management experience and an eye for detail and organization
  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial)

Benefits:

We’re dedicated to creating a remarkable employee experience. At Lunar, competitive base pay is one part of our total compensation package. Lunar employees also have the opportunity to become Lunar shareholders by getting equity in a fast-growing company and participating in our employee stock program.

Additional benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents
  • Flexible Paid Time Off plus 10 paid holidays
  • Tax deferred 401(k) plan
  • Paid parental leave for all full time employees including 12 weeks paid parental leave for the birthing mother and 6 weeks paid parental leave for the non-birthing parent
  •  Subsidized EV charging and pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Cell Phone stipend
